The Challenges to ICT in Many Schools

Most educators have identified a number of issues (below) as obstacles to ICTIntegration in Quality Education for Sustainable Development. I need to hear your experiences and stories on:

  1. How have you overcome them?
  2. What advice do you have for me and others?
  3. How can they be advocates and agents for change in education in their countries?
  4. Who should account for Education for Sustainable Development?

Obstacles:

  • Classes do not have hardware beyond perhaps one computer
  • Computer is in the Principal’s office and accessible for academic purposes
  • Teachers suffer from ICT phobia
  • ICT teacher controls and limits access to the computer lab
  • Those with computer knowledge are unable to integrate and have technological lessons
  • Class size too large (30-60 students) for access and effective use
  • Internet connection not in the classroom
  • Internet connection too slow
  • Government do not invest in resources that result in new methodologies like re orientation of the curriculum implimentation approaches
  • There are no standards for ICT in education in our country
  • Our country has a general policy on ICT in education, but it’s just on paper
  • Teachers have no resources or technical support or proffessional development mechanism
  • Lack of time, resources do not allow us to implement ICTs in our classrooms

I wish to hear from you

Regards

Angule

 Hi Angle:

I think your excellent work. I believe that communication among international students is very important for their future. I think that despite the difficulties you and says they are real (at least in my country) we must try to challenge them to share with our students.
We must overcome language barriers and cultures in the framework of respect.

Thank you for the positive comments that were quite encouraging:

I do agree with you in the believe to have students and educators (Or Adult Youth Mentors) sharing beyond all form of designed or natural differances.

Overcoming is the vision in this project. We have a number of persons who should be mould to make this a reality. This starts with those who share our feelings like you.

What are you doing in your country? What interventions are there about ICT?

Cheers!

Well maintaining quality in education in the present scenario is a challenge and I believe educational consulting services like XSEED are promoting it quite well in India..
