IDF strives to scale up HIV Testing and Counselling to over 75% of the General Population who are not aware of their HIV Status in order to contain new HIV infection as a measure. New HIV infection is an ongoing pandemic estimated to be 55,000 – 100,000 per year, including 34,000 paediatric victims in Kenya, where 75% – 80% of the people do not know their HIV status, majority of whom are poor and illiterate and do not have time to reach HIV testing sites. We face difficult HIV prevention challenges like the high sero-status discordance in marriage/regular unions, social norms regarding relationships, gender roles/imbalances, stigma and discrimination, fear and risk perception and fertility intentions, the challenges which have been exacerbated by poverty and malnutrition which impede preve

Scaling up knowledge of HIV Status as a means of reducing New HIV Infections in Rachuonyo South District. IDF with support from its partners is executing a Free Medical Examination and Treatment through a Programme called PITC-Provider Initiated Testing and Counselling. IDF’s office coupling as a Comprehensive Care Clinic at KADONGO TOWN near Kisumu City, provides HIV Testing and Counselling - HTC, Laboratory examination and free treatment to the public; and this is done in 4 Outreach Sites namely Bessa Medical Clinic, Simbiri Health Centre, Nyandiwa Clinic and Mangima Health Centre which are spread all over the District. Mobilization is done to inform the public of the free medical camp venues and dates. Free medical examination and treatment attract many patients most of whom are poor, disabled and terminally ill. 90% of those in attendance accept HTC, which is a success strategy where an average oft 100 clients are tested for HIV per every free medical camp. Scaling up and expanding

IDF is a satellite site for Kabondo Sub District Hospital; hence referrals are done to IDF for diagnosis and treatment for free. Unlike Government and Private Health Facilities where charges for medical drugs and services are high and prohibitive to many poor people, who mostly prefer to stay at home suffering their diseases, IDF has created a niche to offer Free Medical Examination and Treatment to the Public at its Clinic and 4 satellite PITC Free Medical Camps, thereby attracting many poor and disadvantage groups like the disabled and elderly who receive HIV Testing and Counselling, free medical drugs including ARVs, follow up services and referrals for specialized interventions. IDF influences those who bring patients for treatment to also undergo the free medical examination and treatment. After knowing their HIV Status, PLHIV have formed 6 Support Groups of approximately 65 members per group. In these groups the fundamental needs of PLHIV namely Physical, Social, psychological, emotional and spiritual Care are provided in a free environment devoid of stigma and discrimination. Couple Counselling to identify Discordant Couples (one partner HIV Infected and the other not HIV infected), is done to the general population, so that they use condoms and do PMTCT of HIV, and also avoid HIV Re- infection of those already infected i.e. doing Prevention With Positives. IDF has a fund raising strategy to support the ongoing PITC Programme of soliciting for Donors and partners. Computer data management and analysis is done, with access to the internet using portable modem. Trea

IDF complements several health facilities in the project area doing HIV Testing and Counselling such as Rachuonyo South District Hospital, Kabondo Sub- District Hospital, Oriang’ VCT Centre, Matata Nursing and Maternity Hospital,Chabera VCT Centre and Ober Health Centre. All these health facilities are either Government or privately run. But IDF is peculiar because it is an NGO seeking for partnerships to implement viable charitable projects addressing the needs of the disadvantaged and poor members of the Community. Whereas these health facilities do HTC, IDF goes beyond that by reaching many people through mobile PITC which offers free medical examination and treatment, which makes IDF’s services popular with the poor, disabled and terminally ill persons. Post test services like ARVs an

Création de l'organisation : nous voulons tout savoir sur votre déclic. Expliquez-nous oú et quand les fondateurs se sont rendu compte que cette solution possédait un véritable potentiel pour changer le monde.

IDF has operated in Rachuonyo South District since its inception in 1999 dealing with HIV and AIDS interventions especially HTC, Care, Treatment and Support at the Clinic where the public was expected to come on their own, but it was realized that many people who wanted to know their HIV status feared being associated with our Clinic which has been known to be a HTC Centre. Home Visits made by IDF in many parts of the District indicated that cultural practices like widow/widower inheritance and polygamy or multiple sexual partners escalated HIV infection, whereby many people died or became ill due to HIV related conditions yet the local community believed in unfounded causes like taboos, God’s plan, witchcraft, magic or sorcery. Many children died prematurely without diagnosis of HIV Status. I therefore decided to initiate the PITC Programme in conjunction with other partners to mobilize the community to come for Free Medical Examination and Treatment, especially at the mobile satellit

Goal is to reach the 75%-80% of the rural population who are not aware of their HIV Status through Integrated Health Services comprising of HIV testing and counselling, B/S for Malaria parasites, Stool test for Ova and Cyss and Spectrum examination for Tubereilibusilli and provide free treatment, especially to the poor and disadvantaged, who cannot normally pay for medical services in Government and Private Health facilities.
We want to achieve the vision of an HIV free Society by 2030 by scaling up the uptake of HIV Testing and Counselling by accessing the general population and mobilizing them to undertake other tests for treatment of opportunistic Infections. Once aware of their HIV status: If one is HIV positive he/she is counselled to have protected sex, use ARTs, eat we
