There is extreme poverty amongst women in Northern Ghana (90% of people in Northern Ghana live below the poverty line).Through their own efforts to reduce poverty, the women undertake Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SME)like baskets weaving, leather making, smock weaving,etc to generate income to feed, educate and healthcare of their families.The problem they face is market for their crafts.There is bigger market out there for these handicrafts in Ghana and especially in the European and American markets.How to let the whole world know about what they do and to generate sales for them is a big problem for these women.This is the problem I want to solve for them; to present their handicrafts to the world, to create awareness and to be able for them to interact with buyers through ICT.

In a globalised world like the one we live in now,e-business is the surers way to market your business and products for the world to know.I intend to 1. create a website for them
2. set up SMS system that is very interactive
3. Advertise in major B2B directories
4. Educate them in ICT or e-business
5 train them to acquire the requisite skills to produce quality products
The challenge is that these are rural women who do not have formal education but employable skills and the ability and energy to produce large quantities of handicrafts to meet the demands of the world. The question is: is the world aware of their products?. This is what AdinHelp is seeking to do with ICT.Their market is limited to their geographical area of operation which is weath virtually nothing much to feed the family.

A special website will be created to display their products,activities and means where buyers can order and pay for their products through the internet. An educated member or person will be employed to manage the website to include replying and sending emails on behalf of the women, updating the page as and when necessary,. The website will include drawing buyers with similar buying leads to the page and sending selling leads out. The site will be made interactive with webcam where buyers see what they are buying before buying.

There are no peers and competitors as long as this particular project is concern. All the other women or groups also involve in this particular business are still traditional: carry their products to the market to sell to the few competitive buyers who determine how much the products should go for. The challenges I forsee is when they start to adopt my method and become champions of it because of better funding and training.

It affords the women groups access to technology, improved skills and expanded their market base. This has ultimately created employment, increase household income and nutrition, pay beneficiaries children school fees, healthecare needs of family, etc. It has reduced crime rate in the communities since semblance of employment has been created.

It is projected that in the next 1-3 years the women would increase sales to about 75%, thereby increasing their income level by 90%. They will be able to feed their families. They will be able to educate their children. They will be able to expand their businesses to employ more women, thereby creating jobs which intend reduce poverty and crime in these communities. More women groups will be formed to train and assist them on similar bases and with similar benefits to the women, their families and the communities.

It was in April, 2012 when I returned from the Community and was surfing the internet when it strike me that this idea could be used to help alleviate poverty among the women groups in the Village by advertising their wares through the internet. I was specifically surfing alibaba.com and facebook. I have met these women when I went to the village and knowing the activities they are engaged in, I saw this idea as a perfect solution to their problem of market access which can generate sales for them.
