Chetna Organics
|
| The Chetna Organic & Fair Trade Cotton Intervention Program (OCIP) was established in 2004 as a supply chain initiative in organic cotton. The OCIP’s intent was to improve smallholder farmers’ livelihoods by making their farm systems more sustainable and profitable, while creating access to ethical and fair trade markets in cotton. Established in 2009, Chetna Organic Agriculture Producer Company Ltd (COAPCL) is a farmer- owned company, professionally managed and backed by venture philanthropy that empowers farmers by engaging them to build an ethical supply chain. The enterprise is driven by its triple bottom-line objectives, based on the principles of ecological (organic), social (fair trade) and corporate (nominal, non-exploitative profits) sustainability. Today, Chetna Organics runs a multi-faceted program that creates a 360 degree support intervention around the farmers' community. These multiple touch points include social interventions like watershed management, rural employment, and building local communities and schools. Ethics, honesty, transparency, traceability & good governance remain the hallmark values of brand Chetna Organic. |
