I want to start Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in my community to educate young children who are not at the age of primary school yet in order to promote firm educational foundations for our children. I want to enlighten the community on the importance of education specifically when started at an early enough stage. I also want to ensure that the children are protected from child labor
What makes your idea unique?
It is unique in that it will seek to sensitize the community on the importance of early childhood education-something that is not being done at present. Most members of the community do not consider early childhood education important as they do not see the fruits immediately. In addition, most guardians think that education is only important from the primary school stage especially since it was made free in the country.

What impact have you had?
After some initial research and assessment I have realized that the majority of the community likes the idea and welcomes it. Also, there are quite a number of children in the community who are yet to attain the primary school going age and their guardians welcome my idea of ECD centres.

Offer training to the people who will be involved in the running of these centres so that they can fully take charge of the initiative

• Reduction of child illiteracy
• Due to reduced illiteracy there will also be reduced ills associated with childhood such as diseases
• A more informed community on the benefits of well educated children as a foundation for their lives
• Creation of jobs in the ECD centres to members of the community
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?
Since I am an educator, specifically of very young children I was driven to ensure that they have a firm foundation through comprehensive and dedicated early child hood education. This is why I thought of ECD centres. I also wanted to come up with a way of ensuring that they are protected from child labour.

I am an educator specifically of very young children. I have been in this profession for the last five years. I have a passion for children and trying to make their lives, both as children and when they are grown, as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible
