This device is a set of pedals, similar to bicycle pedals, which can be attached to the desk of each student, where it's comfortable for that student to cycle. These will be wirelessly connected to a central monitor that enables the teacher to supervise how much each student is pedaling.

How does your innovation currently get kids (or how might it get kids) engaged in physical activity? How would your idea or project potentially be implemented during the school day?
Our idea would get children exercising during the school day, while they are in class. The teachers will be able to incorporate this new innovation into their current curriculum, and can actually be something fun that the students enjoy participating in. This will team together both academic learning and exercising. The cycle will be built into a desk and bluetoothed to a teacher's monitor. Therefore he/she can keep track of who is pedaling and/or for how long. So the teacher can ask a question and ask students to pedal in response. Also, there will be a virtual game that comes with these devices that the teacher can project onto the screen. The pedals will be linked to the game so that the pedaling corresponds to the game, be in a race or some type of Q and A with pedaling incorporated. These games will be academically-based, so they will be good reinforcing agents for what the students have already learned.

We plan for this new innovation to be available to elementary student in each classroom. The amount of time each child spends cycling, which is the exercise, will depend on how much the teacher would like them to cycle. It will be at the teacher's discretion, so it will be very important to educate the teacher on how to use this new device and how to make it effective.

We are a group of six college students that are currently enrolled in a creativity and innovation course at our university. As one of our projects, we were assigned to enter a competition and come up with a new innovation.
