The Burping and Slurping Challenge at http://www.londonfrogs.com encourages children to get involved with helping to save the waters of the world by writing and recording a song for "The London Frogs" Blog. Songs are inspired by the children’s book “The London Frogs,” published by my company Kiba Kiba Books (http://www.kibakiba.com).

Burping and Slurping to Save the Waters of the World!

What is your idea? What makes it innovative? Why is it important?

The Burping and Slurping Challenge at http://www.londonfrogs.com encourages children to get involved with helping to save the waters of the world by writing and recording a song for "The London Frogs" Blog. What will be the impact of your idea?

The challenge will ultimately help raise awareness about the world’s water crisis and get more people involved in taking action to find a solution! Nearly one billion people - about one in eight - lack access to clean water. The younger generation will be most affected by this. Therefore, it's important that they are given a platform to be involved with finding a solution. Once they do, they will know they made a difference in the world. The project is an experiment in the creative process, using new media tools to engage and empower the youngest generation in creating a better world for all.

Who will help you develop your idea? Why are you the one to make this happen?

Children around the world will help develop this idea. The most recent book that I published is a companion songbook to the children’s book “The London Frogs.” Children are asked to write their own story/song in the book, inspired by the original children’s book. What makes it unique is that the companion songbook has the same title as the children’s book. So, ultimately, there will be thousands of different stories for a book with the same title. This has never been done before. Writing and publishing the book was preliminary preparation for developing "The London Frogs" Blog. I am now ready to start collecting and expanding the content by holding song writing workshops at schools and libraries across the country and around the world. My hope is for music and film teachers to encourage their students to get involved and for schools to start the conversation with their students about how to save the waters of the world. This project is also a chance for teachers to integrate music and art back into the school curriculum, into an English lesson, into schools where the arts have been cut. I've already connected with friends in India and London to start rolling.

How much will it cost to launch your idea? (This can be an estimate)

The budget so far for this project has been extremely small. If I had $25,000 to build this idea, I could start a "burping and slurping" movement nationally and internationally! I can imagine children in thousands of schools around the world participating and eventually a children's series on PBS.

Another way to look at it: this project is like "crowdsourcing" for the youngest generation. Because the youngest generation is not yet active on the internet, they don't have profiles, tweet, engage in discussions, so you have to GO TO THEM and bring their collective voices into the equation by giving them a platform. My project will build a foundation for the youngest generation to participate on the internet. Elementary schools have yet to fully embrace "new media" and get their students online, but when 2yr olds know how to use iPhones, it's time for schools to embrace new media BOLDLY.
