The idea is very relevant for the country of focus, where obesity is a major health concern. The fact that it includes education in food habits combined with exercise is also very appealing. The question here is if this could be extended to other diseases (heart problems, diabetes, etc...) and age groups.

Hi, Moises:

Yes. We had a unique hothouse here to launch this program because of the several types of child family programming here. It really took off with both older experienced parents and the pregnant and/or new birth mother teens.

Our next step is to get it out in the community. We have extremely dedicated program parents so we would like to try to replicate the results using a larger canvas.

I think that this model can be used with any disease condition as long as the teaching/learning is very interactive, creative, and positive.

Please let me know which submission is yours so that I can read it.

Hello,

This looks like a strong program. Have you considered how you could expand this model outside the U.S.? Additionally, please keep you eye out for our upcoming Changmakers competition on Maternal Health. We will be launching that competition on December 16th and we hope you will apply.

Thank you for your response and keep up the great work.

Hi, Dana:

Thank you for your comment. I think this program would work anywhere as long as the participants have some ownership through their creative ideas and input. The population of participants we work with are mainly immmigrant/first generation and have less than a high school diploma. They welcome new information, especially about health and wellness for their families.

We are located in a suburban community outside of Chicago that is just beginning to build the social service infrastructure it will need to accommodate the new populations moving from Chicago and directly from countries all over the world, including Asia, Africa, and Eastern European countries.

Thank you for the information about the upcoming maternal health application.
