Before 2005 the main issue which were dedicated all my efforts was coke–processing plant ambient air pollution. I studied influences of this emissions on pregnancy and newborns. We proved that women who are working at coke-processing plant mustn't take part in the manufacturing process since they've decided to become pregnant. The local authority and top management of the plant suported our proposal. Now my interests are reproductive health and sexually transmitted diseases. I carry out this course as a part of ob/gyn postgraduate education. In the framework of this course I try to overcome a lot of superstitions which have ukrainian medical providers about HIV etc.
I'm living in Donetsk, which is situated in eastern part of Ukraine. The history of Donetsk is eventful and full of contrasts. Started from small mine settlement, Donetsk has grown into a major administrative centre and a city of advanced industry, science and culture. The city got a new name of Donetsk after the Donets river, a tributary of the Don. The post-war modernization resulted in a considerable increase in the scale of industry. There are now more than 40 coal pits within the town limits. Major integrated coking, iron-smelting and steel-making plants make modern Donetsk one of the largest metallurgical centres of the Ukraine. Coke-by-products are the basis of a chemical industry producing plastics. There are several heavy-engineering works, which produce, in the main, mining equipment. Today the city can’t boast for a tourist boom, it mainly attracts the foreign businessmen who are always welcomed with warm Ukrainian hospitality. The name of the Football Club “Shakhtar” Donetsk is well known for the sport fans not only in Ukraine. “Shakhtar” (the name derives from the Ukrainian word for "miner") team after winning the Ukrainian league in 2004 is involved in the UEFA Champions League matches.
I'm proud of my city. I'd like to change for the better life in my country.
The problem of observance of human rights in Ukraine existed from the time of Soviet Union. After USSR collapse significant socioeconomic problems didn’t make it possible for thinking about sexual and reproductive health rights. Nowadays Ukraine chooses the European vector of development. The observance of sexual and reproductive rights became urgent for Ukraine. I think that SRHR course for medical providers should become the instrument for advocacy women's right in Ukraine.
