Born into a family of dedicated educators, in Chicago, Illinois, I am a "third- generation educator." I attended public schools in Chicago and completed two masters degree programs at two of Chicago's great universities. I have taught math at college, high school, and middle school levels (in my native state of Illinois and in the great state of North Carolina). My educational career began in 1978.
Over the years, I have had many incredible mentors. Many of these mentors have helped me identify and apply practical, unique, and at times, individualized approaches to promote student thinking and learning (in science and math). Despite my ongoing work and inspired mentorships, I believe this aquatic ecosystem STEM curriculum is the most comprehensive and valuable long-term educational contribution I might possibly ever make (my Opus Magnum). I have expended great effort broadening my own knowledge and experiential background so that this STEM curriculum might serve all students most effectively.
I continue to be excited about working with my students and colleagues and am hopeful that I will make a positive impact upon STEM curricula in the US by sharing my aquatic ecosystem curriculum with the Changemakers audience and by completing my related book-writing project.
From time to time, I hope to expand on this biography. Please feel free to comment on what I have offered here so far. I value constructive criticism and an occasional complement.
