I collaborate with organizations outside the one I represent in ways that benefit all involved and help improve education for our young people.
I am fond of meeting people from around the world and discovering new cultures. My husband and I are able to do this from our historic home where we run a bed & breakfast and host guests from around the world. The place where I feel a connection is our home which has been in my family since it was built in 1870.
Having worked in both formal education (12 years at a variety of schools) and informal education (12 years at the New England Air Museum) for 24 years, I feel strongly that formal and informal educators need to work together and in collaboration with local industry in order to provide resources to teachers that will tie school instruction to real world applications and prepare students for tomorrow's workforce.
As Director of Educatinal Programs at the New England Air Museum I have:
- worked closely with 12 school districts to develop programs that build on school curriculum, enhance student learning, and are relevant to today's societal needs
- worked closely with members of the local aerospace industry, foundations, and financial institutions to partner with the museum and support educational outreach in their communities.
- developed signature programs at the museum that bring together community resources to educate the public, engage students in STEM activities, and raise awareness of the exiting career opportunities that exist in our region.
- joined regional organizations such as the CREC Science Teachers Roundtable, CT Girls Collaborative Project, the American Institue of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Suffield Economic Development Commission, Bradley Family Day, CT Museum Educators Association, Women in Aviation International, and the New England Museums Association in order to network and stay informed of leading trends in education, with the local economy, and in the museum world.
