I would like to introduce myself as a proud Mohawk woman of the Mohawk Nation from Kahnawake Mohawk Territory in Quebec. I have been involved in developing the Step By Step Child and Family Center since its inception in the early 1980’s. I am currently the Executive Director and am responsible for obtaining resources for our programs and services. In this capacity, I also manage, supervise, and coordinate the implementation of programs and policies that chart the direction of the programs and services offered at the Center. I am also actively involved in the community and am currently developing the “Kahnawake Childcare Authority”. I also serve as the community childcare representative at the regional and national levels. I have been invited to share our experiences with other First Nation communities and organizations as well as with other Non-Aboriginal organizations and government at both the regional and provincial level. In 2005, I was delegated as the Kahnawake Community Childcare representative by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake. I also presently serve as a member of the Quebec Advisory Committee on Early Childhood for the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission.
