Our work, since 2007, is aimed at changing the use of media. In an era that saw the decline of these resources in the economy and the market, Suoni Quotidiani has set a new goal (to use media as a tool to initiate and manage change) and has created ways to achieve this goal.
Suoni Quotidiani is deeply committed in everyplace where the possibilities are covered and pressed by the weight of past, guilt and blindness. Particularly, we feel connection with Kenya.
The media is a tool that has enormous potential, but until now has been used to "support" the economy. When you try to use it in a "useful" way from a social point of view, there are always conflicts with its ineffectiveness (for example, not sufficient to inform citizens about the background of a war, so that you can then stop this war). The most important change for us is the way that media is used. Change that, and you can use these tools for change, and finally they can become "useful", or better still, effective.
Suoni Quotidiani is a "social observatory on normality" which is based in Verona (Italy), and is one of the pioneers of social communication. Since 2007, it has observed, dissected, and described sections of reality, whilst giving a sustainable direction. Suoni Quotidiani uses the media as a tool for social intervention, working closely with people and institutions.
Many projects include the "Gelato con tre bale (Ice-Cream With Three Bales)" (RSI Award 2009), "Ognuno di noi (Everybody)" (a true story with an opportunity for change), "Interim" (news from the world of flexibility and precariousness – Marco Rossi Award 2010),"Diary – My Voyage to FGM/C Issues in Kenya" (audio-research on the practice of female genital mutilation in Kenya), Stella/Zara (a documentary about the relationship between women and genital mutilation in Kenya), and Single Mothers (a study of single mothers in the everyday world). Since 2010, Suoni Quotidiani has been carrying out a research project on "the media as a tool of social intervention" in partnership with the University of Psychology in Padua.
