I´ve change the way children live their grief, their hospitalizations and treatments, as the events that hurt their hearts. I´ve made this through an interactive puppet that speaks in real time with them and takes in their most kept secrets. Thanks to “Proyecto Antenas” children have openly exposed their experiences of abuse which they considered as “normal”. Today many children that have been hospitalized for chronic diseases or surgery, know that all the pain they went through was not in vain, and that their parents and doctors don´t want to hurt them but to help them. Today, more than 5,000 interned children for burns and injuries, are learning that there´s no way that they deserve abuse of any kind. This situation has taken me to explore new horizons and get involved in public politics. Children of my country can now present their ministerial declaration in a hospital through the dialogue with the character of “Proyecto Antenas”, avoiding this way impunity of abuse and the feeling of victimization over again, in the penal process.
Any place where there's children that can be favored in someway. A place where childhood is respected and valued as the seed that´ll grow a better human specie.
I want no children keeping secrets that hurt and that afect them for the rest of their life.I want this tool to become essential in any pediatric hospital abilitating the psychologist in the use of it in order to change the concept of hospitalization in children, to avoid secondary effects that afect their daily life even after being hospitalized after a long time. To keep in their memories the event of hospitalization as a way to improove their life instead of living it as something agressive or under the thought that it was a punishment.
Besides being always in contact with histories of children in pain. I lived the experience to give birth a girl with a severe congenital dessease. The doctors told me that she was going to die. Against all odds, in the Pediatric Hospital in Mexico city they saved her life on may 4 1983 at 5 days old. Since then, I always wanted to retribute the hospital the life of my girl; She had 3 open heart surgerys at age of 2, 3 and 11 years old as well as many other invasive procedures through the years. Today Julia is 28 years old and she has a normal life she is a psychologist working closely with me in this proyect as a director. When she knew Antenas in my private practice she told me how much it would have helped her when she was in the hospital.Someone to ask their fears and doubts because she never deared to ask her parents or doctors. Since that moment, I realized how I could grate the Hospital on the life of Julia. Her experience has helped a lot to adapt this tool to the aplication in hospitals.
In 2005 Antenas por los niños A.C was created being this hospital the first having "Bona" to treat diferents illness including cancer. "Bompi" was created in 2006 for "Centro de la cultura de la discapacidad" in Morelia Mich. treating disability children. Then for the day care DIF and SEDESOL in 2007 "Soldi" was created. In 2009 "Dulas" for the Pediatric Hospital of Tacubaya attending children with burns and finally today we have "Bosty" that has being incorporated to the penal code in Mexico city fot ministerial declarations.
