Elected an Ashoka fellow in 2002 I have been changing the lives of poor children hidden and exploited in households as child domestic workers, collecting scrap and selling charcoal stoves, food and non food items on the street for the benefit of adults and those working in Karaoke bars as objects of entertainment. I have in the course of my work assisted over 1,180 children with an opportunity to acquire vocational skills, enterpreneurship and primary education. Some children have established own businesses and prevented their siblings from joining child exploitation and work as change advocates through experience sharing and peer education. She has convinced employers through education, threats for prosecution and transformed the Katwe 1 into a community of champions against child exploitation where children are no longer employed as domestic workers and community members monitor and report cases and threaten to ostracise employers of children. This coupled with human rights awareness makes Lilian an exceptional change maker having qualified as a lawyer. When children rescued from child exploitation rescue fellow children. I enjoy sitting and holding discussions with women, youth and children in the community to understand their problems and get solutions together. Together reflecting changes in their lives as a result of my work.
I would like to see households stopping to employ children and engaging them in exploitative labour. Seeing these children enrolled in school and seeng less children dropping out of school to join child exploiation.Communities taking responsibilities and penalising those that attempt to employ children.
