I am a Brazilian language pathologist with a PhD in Human Communication Disorders who has specialized in social development programs for children and youth with specific learning disabilities. Being born and raised in Brazil, a country with one of the biggest gaps between rich and poor and also being the mother of a 18 year-old child with dyscalculia I could witness both the failure of the Brazilian school system on teaching kids with or without learning disabilities. Our organization (Instituto ABCD)funds projects that aim at bringing light and answers to the challenge of teaching children with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
I am also married to a social entrepreneur that has been doing a great work on empowering people who are deaf ( Howard Weinstein at Solar Ear) who is an Ashoka Fellow.
