Having adopted two older children from an orphanage and seen the developmental gap grow between them, as they were growing up in a family, and their friends who we frequently visited that were still in a traditional orphanage, I am now leading an organization that is implementing the Families for Orphans(tm) project so more children can be adopted out of orphanages.
My sons are adopted from Mexico where I lived for seven years. That is where we are designing and going to be implementing the first Families for Orphans(tm) community.
I want to see more children being adopted from orphanages into families - not stuck in the orphanage dreaming about being adopted until the day they are forced to leave and be on their own, never knowing what a real family is. The flip side of this is that there are many families who would like to adopt children, but are not able to navigate their way through the bureaucratic process, or who do not have the personal resources to pay what are often extravagant costs.
I am a former entrepreneur, author, speaker and consultant. I've traveled internationally in 46 countries and have worked with companies and individuals in 21 different countries.
Previously, prior to starting my consulting business, I was responsible for management development and sales training for an international Fortune 500 corporation (Johnson Controls, Inc). This and earlier professional experiences with two other international corporations (Xerox; International Harvester) provided me with extensive “real world” experience in sales, service, management and training. Later I was owner and executive director of Measurable Performance Systems, Inc., a company that provided consultants in manage¬ment development and sales training. I was also the operations director for a not-for-profit organization with a homeless shelter, 12 food banks, homeless prevention and other services.
Now my responsibilities are leading the non-profit Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc. and seeing that its Families for Orphans(tm) project is successfully implemented.
