I am a visionary with lots of great ideas and the ambition and education to do it. I also have a great support system like my family that is very encouraging and supportive to help me brainstorm ideas. I am smart, driven, connected and bring all my life experience and education into all the ideas I have.
I feel a connection with my children when we are playing. Whether that is outside in the wilderness, around our kitchen table, reading, learning or just 'being' with each other. This is a place of love, freedom, exploration, understanding, bravery, trust and forgiveness.
I very passionately believe that if a change happens between the relationships of parents and children that communities will begin to heal. The dysfunction will decrease. The role of parents is so critical to the overall health of a community that it is often overlooked. We need to help parents heal from their own traumas but at the same time encourage them to be the best parents they can be, in spite of the challenges they have overcame. In existence with that, is a change that will naturally occur once parents have the self-esteem, skills and confidence to parent their children without fear.
I am an Anishinaabe mother of 3 children, and I take my job as a parent very seriously. I have learned that mistakes I make as a parent are a stepping stones in my journey to becoming a better parent. I practice parenting approaches commonly referred to as “attached parenting”.
I have combined my personal interests and professional training into a consulting business to provide support and coaching to families that are striving to be the best parent they can be. I have worked with children and families since 1996 in a variety of ways from support, counseling and teaching. I have been a parent and foster parent to my siblings since 2000.
My educational background is in both Child & Youth Care (B.A. from Univ. of Victoria) and a Master’s Degree in Health Studies (Athabasca). I have been working with First Nations communities since 1996. My career started out by working frontline at a Friendship Center to more recently doing consultations with First Nation daycares.
I enjoy knitting, doing yoga, playing with my children, singing, cooking healthy recipes and homeschooling my children.
