But what do you want to change ? How do you change it ?
The first step is to recognize the issue, and then if you feel strongly enough about that issue, you want to be recognized and your voice heard.
Web video is a start, but success is too often measured in how viral you are, and what competitions you win.
Journalism on real TV is still a place that brings respect and recognition. How to harness that power for young people ? How to make that CHANGE happen?
NewsRap offers a global solution:
LEVEL 1) We will create a web space where (in collaboration with the education sector) youth will be invited to define issues that touch them and their families. Through blogs and comments, these issues will be enlarged. This forum will be worldwide in outreach, and eventually multilingual (bilingual English and French to begin with).
LEVEL 2) The next level of the site will invite youth to submit lyrics (raps and poetry) based on issues identified by their peers. This will be collaborative in nature, with mentorship and alternative contributions offered to the original authors by their peer community and by professionals.
LEVEL 3) Using their own equipment ( purchased, rented, borrowed, sponsored, etc) , youth will post videos of themselves rapping or jamming their own or other participants' lyrics. NewsRap will provide an on-line collaborative video-editing space where amateur performers/film-makers could add extra visuals and effects, to their presentation. Mentorship, visuals, music, etc will be contributed by team-members (anywhere in the world) who wish to help shape any performance piece, upon invitation by the original author(s).
LEVEL 4) Local TV News broadcasters, sponsors, and producers will select rising talent from LEVEL 3 to professionally shoot and edit young people's NewsRaps from LEVEL 3, and air them on local TV Newscasts.
The world becomes a better place because the voice and concerns of youth are exposed to real TV audiences; youth experience partnerships with other youth from around the world, and around the corner, through creativity and New Media. Together they frame the issues that need changing . People will listen. Change will happen.

Your passion is reputable & the fact of 'rhymes sticking in minds', is infectious. Does our 'world' change through 'word', lacking 'l' or an understanding for moral-mortal-humanity's-in transition?
The only thing is, being a music enthusiast, there tends to be a forgetting-for-the-fun-of-it syndrome to music & the changing of times & seasons of focus within the hocus pocus of new contacts/deals & industry monarchy. Even with independent labels [the millions & growing?] there also tends to be TMI - too much information for any TRUE wisdom to be learned from, en masse.
'Baby steps' have given the 'entertainment industry' a fun [run] for its money (which it lucratively enjoys - good/bad press?) but there still remains a dying passion [for artists] to be famous/recognized by PEER$ [w/o a larger purpose] instead of saying what needs to be heard on political fronts & equally minded educational fronts, & the re-'percussions' which follow the fearless (do fronts imply: doing until paychecks &/or what signing companies wants 'til contract completion?).
What we need is something/project/someone with so much wisdom-within-iT, that it begins to transform minds beyond time & finds education sublime like new wine in old wineskins, healing from WiTHiN 'id' ... each & every listener ... 'O' beyonds in iT echnology [acknowledge sin or obey yond ethnology in IT technology]. Bottom Line - can we raise/influence these artists in some way? Members of teamLEOnardo have been involved with doing this vary thing!
