The Andean Lodge adventure is a truly unique experience offering a surreal trek throughout a seldom seen pristine part of the Andeans. For me, this trip is the complete package with great eco-friendly lodges that are seamlessly built into their natural surroundings that provide warm showers and flavorful cuisine helping to replenish trekkers after a great day on the trail. Also, the pre-Inca, vibrant culture of the Llama and Alpaca herders that inhabit the area and benefit from the lodges help to enrich the ambience and profound beauty of this area. I was blown away by the incredible 20,000 feet peaks that loom over pristine valleys littered with llamas and alpacas as well as the immense glaciers and geological magnificence that surround the area and accompany trekkers each day along the trail.
Andean Lodges inspired me because after trekking throughout the world, I have yet to come upon another experience that provides a complete package like this one. From the rugged beauty of the Andes, to the rustic, comfortable lodges, to the singular culture of the Llama and Alpaca herders, this trip encompasses all these great aspects and more.
It was fantastic, be so close to the Sacred mountain of Ausangate, share the space with wild vicugnas, geese, Ibises, etc, and be pampered by a local team.. Marcelo is a top line chef, Orlando ads to the experience with his music and Jeremy a superb guide.. We loved it and I cant thank all of You enough..
We will recomend you to any strong willed and fit traveller .. looking for a real experiece in the Andes..
In November 2008 my wife and I went to the Ausangate Trail.
This experience has become one of the most important things we have done in our lifetime.
Roger and his team made it posible. I think God really took his time in this part of Perú.
The treck has so many angles and feelings that is undescribable. You really experience been part of this wonderfull world. It has given me hope for my sons and future generations. We can live and share with the people of the Andean comunities adventures, business, experiences and the emotion of life. This treck gives you the oportunity to be with yourself and think what you are capable of doing in life and share with other living creatures.
Thanks Roger.
What Roger and his team have managed to accomplish in partnership with the indigenous communities in the Ausangate region is nothing short of miraculous. I have participated in many trekking holidays, including the Inca trail, and have not experienced one that operates in a manner so respectful to the local communities and the environment. When hiking the Inca trail, I worried about exploitation of the porters, and destruction of the environment, this was not a concern on the Ausangate trek. The porters, cooks and animal handlers were from the communities that are partners with the tour operator. This important fact differentiates Andean Lodges from any other tour operator that I have worked with.
As for the trek, it is fairly challenging. It reaches high altitudes and covers many kilometers per day. But the reward is some of the most breathtaking scenery that can be experienced anywhere in the world, and the comfort of the lodges in the evening.
As for the professional team assembled for his trek, I cannot find enough praise for them. Jeremy and Jaun Carlos who guided our group were extremely adept at navigating the trail, working with the varying paces of the hikers, and assisting with the first aid for hikers that had difficulty with the altitude. Their familiarity with the local flora and fauna and their ability to discuss in some detail what we were seeing not only made the trek enjoyable, but was evidence of their dedication to the preservation of these sacred mountain lands.
In my opinion, what these folks have done is the model of what a sustainable tourism operation should be, and I am looking forward to experiencing this trek again.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information about my experience on the Camino del Apu Ausangate.
I have watched this herculean effort emerge and come to fruition. Building 4 lodges at that altitude with llamas carrying the materials was an amazing feat of fortitude that was far beyond my imagination. I have seen the growth and appreciation of the community with this exquisite co-creation. I have stayed at one of the lodges and been more than impressed with the comforts and beauty. I especially love the heartfelt connection with the local people. Experiencing their music and art is a highlight. This project embraces the aspects of tourism and connection to the people and the land that are inspirational to everyone who has the unique opportunity to experience it. I see that this project can be a template for others around the world to engage in the integrity of this system with similar co-creations.
