The objective is to manage the cultural and natural resources of San Vicente de Nicoya in a sustainable and participative way, particularly to preserve Chorotega’s pottery tradition.

This is a community project. The people besides keeping alive a millenary tradition are actors of their own development by managing their natural and cultural resources.

This is a community project where the actions and decisions are in the hands of the community. The impact is visible through the sale of the artisan products, the number of tourists, and the commitment of the community towards the project and the preservation of the artisan tradition.

In what ways are local residents actively involved in your work, including participation and community input? How has the community responded to or benefited from your approach?

The organization is the hands of the community. The village elects its representatives in the assemblies. A participatory network is build, where the decisions are taken jointly.

How does your program promote traveler enthusiasm, satisfaction, and engagement with the locale?

The visitors are taken to the artisan’s houses and workshops to get to know all the pottery elaboration process, they visit the sites where the materials are extracted and visit the natural attractions.

Describe how your work helps travelers and local residents better understand the value of the area's cultural and natural heritage, and educates them on local environmental issues.

The visitors live an experience by participating in it. The visitors speak and live with the community and become involve with their achievements and problems.

What is the origin of your innovation? Tell the Changemakers and media communities what prompted you to start this initiative.

The Eco-museum was born from the need to protect the artisan tradition and to promote the sustainable development of the community.

I’m an artisan; I work with pottery since I was a kid. I have been a communal leader; I work as the President of the communal aqueduct and currently I’m the Vice President of the Eco-Museum Associations of the Chorotega Artisanship.
