Cost, Equity.

The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

Women are active agents of economic and social change and environmental protection who are,in many ways and to various degrees, constrained in their roles as farmers, producers, investors, caregivers and consumers. They play crucial roles ensuring food and nutrition security, eradicating poverty and improving the well-being of their families yet continue to face serious challenges as a result of gender-based stereotypes and discrimination that deny them equitable access to opportunities, resources, assets and services.Women bear a disproportionate burden of the world’s poverty.they are more likely to be poor than men are and at risk of hunger because of the systematic discrimination they face in education, health care, employment and control of assets.therefore we now are working to help them.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

We work with the marginalized rural women though in our midst are focused strong women who can make good leaders.we shall use the following strategies to effectively attain our goals and meet our objectives to map out the project area which shall put into consideration marginalized areas,Recruitment and employment of project staff,Select leaders for the different project areas who will act as a link between project implementers and the target women folk,Comprehensive training of project staff and selected woman personalities on key project components,Conduct intensive, comprehensive, vigorous and community women sensitization, mobilization and training activities through meeting periodic organized women forum, small focus group discussions, professional working women forums and continuous sensitization for groups during the table banking meetings.Use local language radio stations to advertise meetings and sensitization campaigns.Conduct review meetings for monitoring and evaluation purposes

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

We run a social economic empowerment program in collaboration with other development partners including the ministry of planning and vision 2030 with the main aim of women empowerment, poverty eradication and training the 2015 millennium development goals. The organization which is purely women led was formed in 2009 after a group of women leaders realized that the rural women were languishing in poverty due to the graetest gender imbalances and social discrimination They realized that women were most vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and all forms of abuse and other poverty related issues, especially with the rural woman. We started an initiative that was going to be able to solve women problems and it has been able to mobilize over 10000 rural women all involved in an activity called TABLE BANKING.We have undertake to use our wide coverage of the county to promote peace and reconciliation among the communities that live here.Women in these communities have traditionally been sidelined and constantly abused by men. They are not part of the community’s leadership, neither are they involved in decision making. We have however tried in our sensitization campaigns to educate the women on the importance of being part of the community’s leadership. Having empowered the woman economically, it has been evident that women once empowered, women can actively form part of the decision making in their families and the community at large. Woman who once depended on their husbands to provide for everything can now send their kids to school and even put food on their families tables.

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

we have so many competitors who are working in and around our area of work and with the same thing we do but what is making us differnt from them is that so far we've been able to solve so many problems facing women of the rural through the table banking which is a group funding strategy in which members save and borrow immediately from the same savings. The size of loans depends on the amount of money on the table saved at one point. Members borrow money in form of either short term or long term loans also the table banking is the core activity that brings these women together every month and also it has provided accessible and affordable financial services to the unbanked population in rural areas with the view of eradicating poverty and promoting social economic empowerment to women.

We started a program called Table Banking which has rapidly grown with 450 women groups having been registered to date with a total membership of 15000 active women Our members are mainly the unbanked population of women and our main aim is to be the excellent organization in the reduction of poverty in Kenya and to provide accessible and affordable financial services to the unbanked population of women in rural Kenya, with the view of eradicating poverty and promoting social economic empowerment. We also have started other programs that run hand with Table Banking. We have a capacity building program that enables our members to learn more about how to make good investment choices so that they can be able to service the cheap loans they take and also profit from it.This table banking is the core activity that brings these women together every month and its during these meetings that we are able to also do our sensitization, capacity building and other empowerment programs.

What is your projected impact over the next 1-3 years?

something happens when women come together and therefore my project is all about bringing upto over one million women from around the entire nation and even outside our country together and empower them help them improve there lives by showing them ways of doing business helping them learn how to stand on there on and stop being dependant upon their husband i'll know that i will have impacted on their lives i know with our rapid growth that we are witnessing now i know in 2-3 years time i will have achieved our goal of eradicating poverty to the lowest percentage possible making sure that women are able to send their kids to school and put food to table

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

finance, gender inequality and lack of proper education to women is the greatest challenge hinderance to our success.we are tring as much as possible to sale the idae of the table banking to as many people as possible and also working hand in hand with the goverment institutions so that it can help us overcome or rather rescue us so as not to fall during the hard times of financial challenges and also bring those women close so to enable us overcome the gender imbalances
