My wife and I sponsor 5 orphans through Hearth to Hearth Ministries. We feel that orphans need to know that someone cares enough about them to make a commitment to ensure they receive the care they need.
Sponsorship is very important to orphans beyond that of financial support. The children have lost that which is most dear to them, their parents. Many do not have any family left to care for them, so it is not uncommon for one sibling to be trying to care for many others. When they join an orphanage, they become part of a very large family, but they still lack parents. Having a sponsor gives them the sense of belonging to a small family, someone who even though lives far away, loves them enough to consider them their child. It also gives sponsors an opportunity to save the life of a child who might othewise be lost.
Vulnerability brought about in any way is a big blow to the affected life. We need to Love them and just show them kindness in all ways. They may lose parents but they must not lose hope. One who does good to such souls is a Blessing unto God.
You are right Mary. I can not think of being more volnerable than being an orphan with no where to go.
