62 years of Independence and there are 91 million working children in rural India according to 1991 census. Government of India and Tamil nadu Government has been implementing various schemes to uphold child rights. NGO’s are supporting government’s efforts in enrolling and retaining children between 6-14 years in school.
In rural areas Government trying to create awareness about child labor. But this awareness creation never reached tribal colonies because they are far from the main villages. Still Many tribal children never attended school. One of the major reasons for child labor is illiteracy among parents.
CHHASE is working towards educating all children to attend schools especially tribal children. These tribal colonies are far from the schools and tribal people are in the habit of migration. CHHASE is against abandoning such children between 6 to 14 yrs who could not attend formal schools. Transit school is a boon to these children as they are given a fresh start. Individual attention and coaching is given to all these children and are motivated to attend school. This preparation needs 2 to 3 years of time.
Major Issues which go against development are:
• Many villages do not have school and if it is available, it is too far from the hamlets

• Many are Poor quality of teachers and schools

• Rural children have very low self esteem and confidence which leads them to school dropout.

• No connection between education and employment

• No relevant skills among educated children

• No community and social support to child rights

To Achieve and attain our goals and missions, our non profit will under take the following actions :
Social Mobilization :
Role of communities is very crucial in child labor eradication. Organizing people into sustainable groups to uphold child rights, especially with 100%enrolement and retention, is the key to success and sustainability.

a) School enrolment campaigns: House to house visits by youth, teachers, panchayat leaders, SHG members, and religious leaders, enroll children will create an impact in the community and take the social mobilization process further.

b) Conducting Rallies: To get the message to the total community, youth, SHG members, teachers, head masters and children would take part in the rally.

c) Panchayat leaders: They can play a vital role in child labor eradication by helping CHHASE identifying the children, enroll them in CHHASE residential/ Transit school or government schools.

d) Counselling and motivating Parents: It will be shocking to know that poor parents view birth of a child as “one more person to bring income to family”. Counseling for parents of child labor will make them sensitive to problems faced by their children and motivate them to send their child to school.

e) Religious leaders and Religious Institutions: it will be surprising to know that if religious leaders preach about the evils of child labor from their preaching platforms, 50% of the child labor will come to an end. Motivation and awareness raising among religious leaders and institutions will be one of our main action.
