The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a public university located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. UNC is the oldest public university in the United States and is one of the original eight schools known as a Public Ivy. UNC has a strong history in athletics, most notably in men's basketball and women's soccer. The North Carolina Tar Heels have provided many olympians to United States teams. In 1996, over thirty UNC athletes competed in the Atlanta Olympics. In addition, as of spring 2007, the university has won 32 NCAA team championships in six different sports, eighth all-time. UNC is a university rich in academic and athletic history but most importantly a university which prides itself on its sense of community.
