Reformasi pendidikan

Here's a story about how members of the Changemakers community are promoting education reform in Latin America:

Ask Raúl Collazos about the fruits of Maestra Vida, his groundbreaking educational experiment in the villages of El Tambo, and he may tell you that one of his biggest successes is precisely that—the delicious fruits grown by school children and their families in an impoverished corner of southwest Colombia.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

We won Best Song at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, received a fantastic review from Billboard Discoveries, and were chosen to be in the Grammy and Oscar gifts to the nominees. The University of BC Education Department helped us develop lessons and activities for our series of books (K to Grade 3.) We test marketed The Magic of Think™ with teachers, homeschooling mothers, and grandparents. The testimonials have been phenomenal. The children in both public and private schools have been captivated by the stories performed “in character.” The children love the music and listen to it day and night. We have also been receiving enthusiastic reviews from parents with Special Needs and Gifted children. Children open up on issues that have not been discussed before. Eg. being bullied.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

Receiving support from American Express would greatly assist us in achieving our goal of reaching and helping every child in the world. Rich or poor, regardless of color or nationality. Long term, stronger children become stronger adults, who will be more equipped to make the world a better place.

The School of Belonging Learning Institute

We are at a crisis point in education today. Many teachers and children are feeling disconnected, stressed out and unmotivated. The pressures brought on by the new mandated instructional practices from both Federal and State Departments of Education are felt by all members of the school community. There is a decrease in pro-social skills and an increase in anti-social behaviors. Most answers to this problem focus on programming. My approach focuses on building a new consciousness within the school community.

What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, share what is innovative about your approach.

This consciousness is based on creating an authentic learning environment through open and often vulnerable communication that emphasizes compassion, empathy, collaboration and problem solving. My work focuses on facilitating emotional safety for all members of the school community.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

1. Complete, publish and market The School of Belonging Learning Institute's newest resource: The School of Belonging: Empathy in Practice (in process).

2. Implement The School of Belonging Learning Institute with three unique learning communities: New Directions Alternative Secondary School in the Bronx, NY, Hunter College Magnet School (grades k-12), in Manhattan, NY, and with Beacon Secondary School (grades 6-12), in Beacon, NY.

3. Run four School of Belonging Learning Institute training sessions at the Fellowship for Reconciliation training site in Nyack, NY. Schools from New York City and the New York metropolitan area will be invited to take part. This will be followed up with a 5 day School of Belonging Certification Program in the summer, 2014 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.

Peer Benchmarking Analysis

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

The School of Belonging Learning Institute (SBLI), has evolved over the past 30 years into a unique and innovative culture building process. Institute creator David A. Levine has created authentic learning experiences which facilitate self-reflection and behavior change through his music, cutting edge books, meaningful dialogue, applied skills, and classroom demonstrations. The SBLI process has consistently created systemic transformational learning which has proven to be life changing for many teachers, leaders, children and parents. David wants SBLI to be a robust process that will make significant social change in our schools and communities. In the past year, he has established relationships with several foundations who are devoted to social and emotional learning and he is currently negotiating with school districts from a variety of socio-economic realms. As creator of SBLI, David needs help in branding his vision and marketing his work in such a way that schools from all over the world, who are in need of creating caring and empathic learning communities, will want to implement The School of Belonging Learning Institute for their teachers and students .

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Open commuication through dialogue and non-judgment.

2.

A belief in the creative potential of synergizing ideas.

3.

Regular check-ins, celebration and authentic feedback.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

I would like support in my organization overall. I have been working on my own since 1992. After meeting several colleagues through Ashoka, I realized that I needed to scale up my work to make a greater difference in the world. Creativity, passion and belief do not always equal a sound business plan and that is what I need assistance with. In the past few weeks, I have been approached by three different school districts looking to establish a long-range working relationship with The SBLI process, and I now see the need to refine my focus on marketing, capacity building. and service delivery.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

I have always worked on my own, often thriving with minimal marketing or a strategic plan. Whenever I thought of scaling up, I wasn't sure how to do it as my work was so uniquely connected to my personality and expression. Last October while speaking with the Novo Foundation about social and emotional learning, I was told me how much in alignment they were with me but that I needed to move my work from being "boutiquey" to being "robust". This wasn't exactly a business consultation but it did help change my thinking in terms of what was needed to scale up The School of Belonging process.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Yes

Are you able to meet virtually or at a convenient in-person location?

Yes

Are you able to meet in the city where your organization is based?

Yes

dampak

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

To create an educational framework devoted to enhancing the uniqueness of student expression to the world.

2.

To equip young people to be socially conscious as they make their professional mark on the world.

3.

To establish on-going community of practice teams for educators around the globe focused on authentic SEL initiatives.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Since 1992, David A. Levine has developed and implemented School of Belonging concepts in app. 400 schools, impacting 10,000 teachers and 52,000 youth. He has worked with students, teachers, principals, parents and central administrators, running workshops and teaching classes on building classroom communities, creating emotionally safe schools, ,and working effectively in teams. The greatest successes have been demonstrated by teachers taking David's ideas, modifying them to match their own teaching styles and the unique needs of their students, and integrating School of Belonging practices into their classrooms. David's work has influenced teachers, leaders and policy makers across the United States, in Guam, New Zealand, India, and Canada. Many pre-service programs use David's books.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

The School of Belonging Learning Institute will become a known entity in the United States and beyond, establishing a further reaching voice, influence and impact in creating schools that truly meet the social and emotional learning needs of their students. The changes that will come about from infusing School of Belonging principles into a school's cultural practices, will have a profound effect on the future well-being and life success of our most critical sustainable resource: our children. Over the next three years, in addition to the US, SBLI will have a presence in New Zealand, England, Canada and Australia, helping to make schools places where children learn the life skills of empathy, compassion, problem solving, collaboration, self-reflection, and leadership.

Light My Way ~ Career Day

Unlike children from more affluent communities, children who live in low-income neighborhoods don't have much access or exposure to a wide variety of professionals. Therefore, they have a limited vision of the careers towards which they can strive. This career day program seeks to change that by helping such children, at an early age, identify what they love to do and explore careers that reflect their passions. Students have an individual interview yearly, during which they tap into their interests, learn about 40-50 careers, and then choose two careers to learn about for Career Day.

Project Support

Need #1

Need #2

Customer Relationships

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

Need #1. I need to develop tools to evaluate the effectiveness of the program short-term and longitudinally. My research on the web cannot find a single child-centered program geared to the individual elementary school student. Consequently, I have no standard, accepted tools of measurement for comparison. I need to build measurement standards, not just for accountability to funders, but because the feedback will help me to build in a continuous process of improved effectiveness. #2. I have chosen to serve a NYC public school in the poorest Congressional district in the country. The children's education is compromised, as school staff, students and their families feel pressure to test well in order to give the school a good performance grade to avoid being shut down. The pressure to meet immediate testing needs deters administrators from investing their limited time on extra non-academic programs such as mine, that focus on long-term career goals. We need a strategy to become more effective in working within this stressed educational system and in getting administrators and teachers to “buy in” to the notion that our program can be complementary to their mission.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Collaboration

2.

openness to new ideas

3.

Empowering individuals through the finding and recognition of their strengths.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

I will need overall help in the following areas but can choose just one to focus on during the internship. I would like help with any one of the following areas: the creation of a business plan, create accountability measures, the replication of our program to another school and with fund raising.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

I have not worked on any of the above areas (except for creating accountability measures) with an objective outside consultant. I met with a researcher for a year the first year we were up and running in 2009, but was not convinced that he had a clear understanding of the programs objectives.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Yes

Are you able to meet virtually or at a convenient in-person location?

Yes

Are you able to meet in the city where your organization is based?

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

Students will have access to community role models who discuss the discovery of and educational path towards their career.

2.

Students will use the skills they learned from the program to make informed and meaningful career choices as adults.

3.

Replication of the program in other schools to create a national program.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

1.) A large number of students report in post career day interviews that they can see themselves having the career they learned about on Career Day. Students are overwhelmingly enthusiastic about attending career day and love being interviewed. The Principal said it is their favorite day of the school year. 2.) Children often come to the interview with preconceived notions about the careers they would like to learn about but once they have tapped into their talents and passions and learn about a wide variety of careers, their choices often change. We have not seen the long term effects of the interview process but would like to create a longitudinal measure of the effectiveness of our intervention/interview. 3.) I have not begun working on a solution as of yet.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

I am hoping that the consultations will help me to see if the post career day interview is a good measure of the effectiveness of the program. I am hoping that I can secure an effective strategy to work with very stressed clients, (the NYC public schools) to facilitate a greater collaboration in my present school and in future schools.

Our mission is transforming education for underserved youth, making it accessible, engaging, and relevant. The World Wide Workshop uses technology to create innovative learning opportunities to equally empower all youth--girls and boys, rural and urban, economically and academically struggling--to be inventors and leaders in the global knowledge economy. Our flagship program, Globaloria, gives students with limited access to technology the tools and opportunity to create their own media, not just consume it. Our project-based approach to the classroom engages students in personalized learning, community engagement, and better education, equipping all to excel academically and go on to become the next generation of innovators in fields they had no prior hope of joining, let alone leading.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

Because we are projected to grow not only in our number of consumers, but also in our product and service offerings, our top priorities in the coming year are:

1. To understand our organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, impact, and challenges based on the industry/environment in which we operate.
2. To improve management’s ability to recruit and retain staff based on overall organizational goals, and to be able to succeed in our fast-paced growth and scaling partnerships and impact as we aim to become a leader in impacting our field.

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

We are at a critical moment of expansion, at which additional employees are needed to serve a growing consumer base and product line. We seek engaged and innovative employees to support our fast-paced growth, in service of our goal to reach even more youth with the positive impact of education innovation. We have identified three areas of improvement needed to achieve this: staff recruitment, orientation, and retention. Our management would benefit from assessment by American Express of our approach to these staffing practices, as well as assistance in developing creative strategies for attracting and retaining entrepreneurial, socially minded employees. As a small non-profit organization, we have established limited staffing procedures, but as we continue to grow it will be necessary to implement formal orientation and appraisal protocols to more comfortably integrate new employees and improve existing performance review procedures. Specifically we aim to motivate employees, set individual goals, recognize top performers, and reduce employee turnover. Addressing these needs would ensure that our work expands under the management of an invested and knowledgable team.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Since its launch in 2006, Globaloria has reached 7000 students and teachers with education transformation. Research shows Globaloria has helped students to build critical thinking skills and adopt self-directed and collaborative learning practices--leading to improved academic performance among low-income students. Moreover, Globaloria has also been proven to increase interest in technology education and careers among students—particularly girls—and narrow the digital divide by eliminating computer usage gaps among students especially affected by it: poor and minority youth. With nearly 4 million science, technology, engineering, and math jobs going unfilled each year, Globaloria is preparing underserved students with the skills they need to be sought-after and highly-paid professionals.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

We will remain committed to enhancing learning, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global awareness in economically disadvantaged and technologically underserved communities by empowering youth to be self-motivated learners and innovators in the global knowledge economy. Given the capabilities to hire and retain committed, creative employees to support our expansion, we will be able to impact thousands more youth with Globaloria and come closer to our goal of transforming education for millions of youth worldwide. Furthermore, understanding our SWOT will enable us to emerge as leaders in our field and thus inspire other organizations towards similar impacts, together achieving education transformation for underserved youth on a global scale.

KIDS OWN WISDOM

Brain science confirms: Humans are hard-wired at birth to empathize + to cooperate. So, why do we see rampant dysfunction and disconnection between people, nations, and the environment? Failure to engage + exercise inborn sensitivity to the interconnectedness of all life on earth is a major factor.

As with any natural born talent or skill, deep-seated tendencies (to empathize, etc.) need to be consistently drawn out and exercised for authentic development + integration. Lectures, at a certain point, are counter-productive.

KOW's researched + tested, wide-ranging, open-ended questions engage groups of students in relevant, age-appropriate, enthusiastic discussions that consistently activate + consolidate emotional intelligence, critical thinking + win-win problem solving abilities.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

1. To be recognized and respected as change agents in the area of social-emotional learning that spurs creative critical thinking, throughout the United States, other English-speaking countries, and Spanish speaking-countries, as well. (KOW is currently in the final stages of being professionally translated into Spanish.) We will achieve recognition and respect through: expansion of our materials into many more schools, speaking engagements, more active social media, creating mutually supportive professional alliances, and publication of a book (in the works) that describes the rational, research and results behind the design and unique approach of KIDS' OWN WISDOM.

2. Within a year: develop, classroom test and start selling the next 2-4 levels of KIDS' OWN WISDOM. (Our goal is to produce at least 10 more levels of KIDS' OWN WISDOM, serving all children, 4-15 years of age.)

3. To enlist adequate numbers of qualified sales representatives / trainers (preferably former or current teachers).

Project Support

Need #1

Message & Brand Strategy

Need #2

Digital Marketing Strategy

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

Our most pressing specific project need is to develop a stand-out presence in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) market with a powerfully compelling/coherent message that positions KIDS' OWN WISDOM (KOW) as the uniquely valuable resource it has proven itself to be. Once KOW gains national recognition, advanced levels of the program can be produced and distributed.

In addition to the logo we recently acquired, the following would help to create the stand-out presence KOW deserves: √ Consistent brand messaging that reflects KOW's vision and values, as well as its short and long-range benefits √ A more effective web site, capable of securely accepting credit cards √ Search engine optimization
√ Podcasting √ Video series √ Social media management √ Database integration

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Shared values as the basis of solid trust.

2.

Mutual respect for different, complementary strengths, making it possible to achieve far more than we could separately.

3.

Open, honest communication that prioritizes Big Picture goal of bringing KOW to maximum number of schools, worldwide.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Our organization, overall, is in need of solid business savvy in the following areas:

1.) Marketing the cumulative, multi-dimensional benefits derived from regular use of KIDS' OWN WISDOM.

2.) Accounting and database integration.

3.) Forging professional alliances, creating speaking engagements, interviews, etc.

... I'm completely open to guidance about what other activities and achievements are necessary to promote progress in this area.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

I have given some attention to the above area, but never in a consistent way, because I had no confidence in how to achieve significant results. I've never formally worked with outside consultants, but the time is now for professional business guidance.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Are you able to meet virtually or at a convenient in-person location?

Yes

Are you able to meet in the city where your organization is based?

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

To rank as one of the most highly regarded approaches to impacting significant growth in empathy + critical thinking skills.

2.

To be internationally adopted as a tool for sparking and engaging kids' capacity to think + collaboratively problem solve.

3.

To activate the positive potential of education + to counter-balance the "standardizing" effect of most educational systems.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

With accurate and consistent implementation of KIDS' OWN WISDOM, teachers report: (1) More cooperation between students during indoor and outdoor activities = reduced bullying, reduced cheating, reduced pushing. (2) Even the most shy students participate in, and contribute to, KOW discussions - a crucial and important school readiness/success skill. (3) Distinct carry-over influence, both short and long-term, at taking more personal responsibility for decisions and choices. (4) Reduced need for repetition of instructions and behavior modification. (5) Marked increase in children's awareness, empathy and sensitivity towards others.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

Functioning within the guidelines of a legitimate and successful business model will enable us to more quickly achieve one of our major goals: to donate KIDS' OWN WISDOM resources to schools, after school programs, institutions, etc, that cannot afford to purchase them.

We fully expect to be adopted in developing nations, as well as developed nations, and we project powerful alliance building with organizations that demonstrate similar values and results. Examples of 3 organizations we'd love to coordinate efforts with: Ashesi University Foundation, in Ghana (http://www.ashesi.org/), Shanti Children's Foundation, in Nepal (http://www.shantichildrensfoundation.org), and The Communiversity of South Africa (http://www.thecommuniversityofsouthafrica.com/).

This Entry is about (Issues)

Summary: What specific issue or problem does your Venture address?

My venture address the issue of student athletes who focus more on being an athlete than a student.

Misson Statement: What will your venture do?

My venture is a free service provided for struggling student athletes. My venture was created for student athletes who are not preparing well for college or just need help raising their grades. The problems are that on average in my school student athletes have the lower grades than just regular students. A large portion of this is because they don’t understand the material and no extra help is offered to them. Another problem is that they don’t have any motivation to do well in school because they don’t have any plans after high school or they assume that they will go pro in whatever sport they play. Today’s solution is just to keep their gpa at a C average so that they will be eligible to play sports. If they are struggling in a class they are just suppose to ask their friends for help. In order to plan what they want to do after high school they are suppose to go to their guidance councilor. (There are only two for my whole high school). The market for my program is for all student

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

A student athlete comes to one of the meetings after and we ask him about his grades and his plans after high school. We see that his grades are struggling and he plans to play basketball in college. We show him the statistics of how many people get a college scholarship for athletics (1.9%) and show him how focusing on raising his grades would be more beneficial in trying to get into college. He raises his grades well above the required 2.3 GPA necessary to play sport at our school and gets into a state college. After attending one of the job fairs that S.A,P.P hosted he knows that he wants to major in health sciences and go on to become a pharmacist.Several years later he comes back to the school and gives a speech about the importance of focusing on school over sports during a school assembly.

The Community: Define your community, local or international, that you will work on behalf of. What population is affected? Are there other organizations working in this space?

I will work in behalf of my venture Students Athlete Progression Program at Trinity Catholic High school as a after school program. It will start at Trinity Catholic High School with Mr. Greathouse as my ally. aI will then later spread out towards public high schools in my surrounding area and eventually statewide. The venture will effect the 55.5% students nationwide who who play high school sports.

Founding Story: What inspired your venture? Why?

Countless times I have seen people in my school put all their effort in sports and not try hard at school only to then fall short of an athletic scholorship and end up not knowing what to do with their life after high school. In my house I was raised that God, family, and school come before everything else and it was so disappointing to see people so close to me waste their educations. I wanted to start something that would have a large influence in my generation in the community.

What is your long-term vision for your Venture?

I see my venture branching out to the public school system and becoming a nationwide club with branches in every high school after schools see the success that comes from the S.A.A.P. method.

Define your company, program, service, or product in 1-2 short sentences

The Student Athlete Progression Program was created to put emphasis on school over sports and to give them a plan for after high school.

Goals

baca seterusnya↑ menyembunyikan↑ menyembunyikan

What do you want to accomplish in your first year?

In my first year I want to have over 150 students enrolled in my program. With the success of the program I want to be able to spread my program to surrounding other schools. My goal is to have established SAAP in to at least two surrounding schools in my county and have the average GPA raised .5-1.0 points for the student athletes.

Winning entries present a strong plan for how they will achieve and track growth. Identify your six-month milestone for growing your impact

I plan to have at least 50 athletes enrolled in my program and 25 student tutors by the 6th month mark

Identify three major tasks you will have to complete to reach your six-month milestone

Tugas 1

Advertise SAAP throughout the school

Tugas 2

Have the student athletes start to raise their grades

Tugas 3

Have the people enrolled in the program feel welcome and to have helped them plan out their academic future.

Now think bigger! Identify your 12-month impact milestone

Have over 150 students enrolled in the program and two have at least two other chapters in surrounding schools

Identify three major tasks you will have to complete to reach your 12-month milestone

Tugas 1

Contact guidance councilors and advocate my program for their school

Tugas 2

Have the students enrolled be happy with their progress

Tugas 3

Have a 100% high school graduation rate and college acceptance rate for those enrollled

How will your Venture define success in the short term (1-12 months)?

My Ventures short term success will be that it has have made an impact in my community by helping those who teachers often overlook. My venture is only successful if we help others to succeed. Just helping students plan out their future and raise their grades is what success is to my venture on the short term.

In the long-term (1 year?)

The long term success for my Venture is that it will spread from my surrounding community to across America. It's success will be measured by the lives changed and the progress that is made from the students enrolled in the program. My ventures success in the long-term will be that it will be a household name for where student-athletes go when they're struggling in school or looking for direction in their lives.

How will you measure success?

If when I die I have made this world a better place by my actions than I have succeeded. My venture is not meant to be somthing that is abandoned oncemy entrepreneurship class is over or when I graduate high school but it is meant to be something that will continue to work on and improve throughout my life. I want my programs drive and determination to stand out from other programs and if I succeed this program will build upon itself and last long after I have passed. If all this happens than I will know that the world is a better place than it was when I entered it and than I will know I have succeeded.

Why?

Because of my belief that given the chance individuals will rise to the occasion and succeed against all odds.

WINGS Soars!

Penyekalaan (langkah selanjutnya adalah menumbuhkan dampak pada skala regional atau bahkan global)

What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, share what is innovative about your approach.

WINGS is working to solve poor long-term outcomes of low-income students with our innovative social and emotional education program. WINGS teaches kids how to behave well, make good decisions, and build healthy relationships by delivering a social and emotional learning curriculum into a fresh and fun after school program. We serve at-risk, low-income kids 3-hours per day, 5-days per week, for the entire school year – more than 500 hours annually.

Research shows social and emotional education delivered in the after school setting increases academic achievement, school attendance, and student behavior. Evaluations of our program show WINGS kids make better grades, score higher on standardizes tests, attend school more often, and have better behavior than non-WINGS students.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

1) Develop a long-term strategic plan – we are working to identify strategic opportunities for the long-term growth and sustainability of WINGS.

2) Continue with our evaluation efforts – we will be entering the second year of a randomized control trial study on our program effectiveness, the gold standard in program evaluation.

3) Increase the number of students we serve – we are currently in four Charleston, South Carolina schools and two Atlanta, Georgia schools. We are working to increase enrollment in our current schools by more than 25% and add a new school in rural South Carolina.

Need #2

Staffing Capabilities

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

We need to develop and refine our long-term strategic plan through opportunity analysis in order to maximize our impact and to achieve systemic change. Currently we are in an expansion phase, adding new programs each year. We are also in the midst of a randomized control trial study, which we anticipate will definitively document the positive outcomes of WINGS. When we receive our positive evaluation results we need to be prepared for widespread demand.

Our current direct service model is very good at achieving impact, but it is labor intensive and we are only working with a handful of schools. If we were to double our number of schools each year, it would take 14 years for us to reach the nearly 100,000 public elementary schools in the US. Given our current model, that type of growth is unrealistic. In order to achieve real systemic change we need to evaluate the best delivery mechanism of WINGS. Now is the time for us to evaluate the overall marketplace and to identify opportunities where we can achieve the greatest impact, whether it is through our direct service model or another avenue.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Partners who challenge us in our conventional thinking.

2.

People are who willing to make a real commitment to working with us, just as we are willing to make when working with them.

3.

We share common goals of what we want to achieve.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

The only service we currently provide is our direct service after school program, so support will be focused on our overall organization. As a result of the consulting support it may be determined we should pursue an alternative service delivery option, such as a training and curriculum service in order to increase our impact. We are anxious to for the insight the consultants will provide as we go through this evaluation process.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Yes

Are you able to meet virtually or at a convenient in-person location?

Yes

Are you able to meet in the city where your organization is based?

Yes

dampak

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

Better understand the marketplace in which we operate

2.

Explore alternative service delivery options to maximize impact

3.

Initiate the framework to develop a more detailed strategic plan

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

In 2010-11 we partnered with UVA researchers for a preliminary outcome study. The results found executive function skills improved by 21 percentile points and applied problem solving skills improved by 8 percentile points. Increases in these areas are predictors for positive long-term outcomes: improved high school graduation rates, higher income potential, and reduced rates of criminal behavior.

Due to these results, the researchers wrote and received a $2.8 million grant from the US Department of Education for a randomized control trial study on WINGS, the gold standard of program evaluation. Previous evaluations by Yale University demonstrated WINGS kids attained higher math and reading scores and better grades and school attendance than non-WINGS kids.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

We are currently serving 650 kids each day in six low-income elementary schools, and we anticipate expanding our services to more than 900 kids next year. While this is a significant year over year growth rate, we are still falling short of achieving systemic change – we are only hitting a small percentage of all at-risk students. By working with the professionals with American Express we hope to identify a way for us to greatly increase our scale. We realize we will not be able to serve all students in the next year, but we believe this will help us lay the framework for widespread scaling and systemic change.

Consumer/Audience Acquisition

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

We need some help about how to introduce our project in the university world and the students audience. Specially in the first year of University, where students usually need more help. We know that Social media is the key to enter, but we don't know how we should start it. At this time we would like to increase "likers" in our Fan page on Facebook, we think that's a good option to introduce the project, but we don't know how to motivate the students to be in touch with us or how to find potential interested people about us.
At the same time, the positioning of our project on the web (outside social networks) it's a priority, but we would like to do it showing what's different in our idea and what kind of benefits could the students get.

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

More students completing the first year of university in one year.

2.

A big students community, studying through Facebook in a collaborative way.

3.

Fewer students giving up.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Students who have tried S.O.S. Estudiante have acquired a new vision of Skype or Facebook. They have realized that they can use these online tools not just for entertainment or communication, but as a learning tool.
While is too soon to talk about impacts, around 90% of the students who take lessons with S.O.S. Estudiante approve their exam. We believe that without any help, these students could never have completed C.B.C.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

Almost half of the total number of C.B.C. can't finish it in one year, and an important part of it, will give up in the next year. We think that S.O.S. Estudiante could help this critical students portion to complete this first year and keep studying.
We hope to build a community where students could share their doubts and members answer from different points of view. Also they could share their exam results to let the other members know about the final score. Thanks to this community, students would feel they are accompanied with others students during the whole learning process.

Growing up should be healthy, safe, & fun!
MYO ("mee-yo"): Mine. Yours. Ours. focuses on achieving a thriving adolescence for area teens. MYO is about personal development, understanding others, and making the world a better place.
MYO recognizes the power of youth to make positive change in their lives, the lives of their peers, and in the world. MYO is a network of youth programs, a process of leadership, an online community, and a calendar of engaging events and activities. All MYO programs are facilitated by MYO AmeriCorps Members, who are trained to be excellent youth workers and grow the field of youth dev.
MYO works because it has become a brand that is cool and youth feel brand loyalty. In buying into the brand, teens buy into positive outcomes and healthy norms of behavior.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

1. Grow MYO AmeriCorps into the nation's leading youth worker training program and most popular service program for 17-23 year-olds.

Need #2

Digital Marketing Strategy

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

MYO, as a brand, needs help in maintaining a cohesive message that captures different voices: one that elicits youth involvement and also parent support--specifically, one that positions MYO AmeriCorps as a great opportunity for young adults. An articulated recruitment campaign is necessary to grow and sell the AmeriCorps component.
Support is needed in optimizing different channels and sustaining momentum. Coming from a nonprofit perspective, MYO needs lessons from the for-profit marketplace in how to "sell", maintain customer loyalty, and release products. A blog, www.myospace has been a successful channel and social media (all under "myospace"--fb, twitter, etc) is active; yet, assistance is needed in linking the message across all platforms and creating a customer base that is trackable and reachable. Many points of entry are necessary and training staff to manage is a hurdle that time does not provide for; due to lack of resources, things get neglected and tools to help support the small business aspect of product development would be helpful. Advice on copyrighting, trademarking, accepting funds, etc is wanted. Legal help in protecting the voice of minors would be helpful.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

communication

2.

punctuality

3.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Support would be focused on RYASAP's MYO work, arising from the YouthINC division of the overall organization.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

MYO was developed from a 4 year grant award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, during which support was offered from outside consultants in policy and in communications (Spitfire). Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

To create an aligned marketing strategy that launches the brand into the teen market

2.

To articulate a cohesive and cool recruitment campaign for MYO AmeriCorps

3.

To gain knowledge and perspective on how to grow a brand that does good for the world

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Through the MYO programs, which recognize the power of youth to make positive change in their lives, the lives of their peers and in the world, RYASAP's YouthINC division is making significant impact. YouthINC has expanded MYO AmeriCorps, which fosters the development of high quality youth directors, to 75 Members per year, teaching 860 students the Safe Dates Curriculum in the 2011-2012 school year, working with 7 schools and reaching 954 total youth weekly with additional MYO programming. Small youth groups, “MYO groups”, were implemented after school for older teens and during school for younger teens. In addition to the social media and marketing components, including the websites myospace.org, over 25 activities and events such as the MYOscars and MYOthello (search either on fb)

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

MYO will become a recognized brand in the marketplace that stands for positive outcomes and benefits the teens themselves, through profits and through the intrinsic buy-in of a "cool brand": MYO Pop-Up shops to play games, do homework, and hang out with friends, MYO shirts sold in the mall next to cool brands, MYO shirts being worn by teens doing service projects, MYO arts nights with positive message, MYO games where teens can have fun, be healthy, and play. The logo is secured and the tools to sustain growth are in hand.
Critical to this vision is the growth and prominence of MYO AmeriCorps as a premier service program, widely accepted as a great experience for the college-aged set. With a clear and attractive recruitment campaign, MYO AmeriCorps can expand its reach and impact.

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

Specific project needs:
1. Grow the audience through digital marketing such as through a creative innovative website which markets the idea of cultural diversity.
2. Cohesion of content through digital marketing which creates a voice and personality to the website that reflects the program.
3. To create a platform for students to framework their great ideas and projects through digital marketing.
4. To have an understanding of the organically grown content this benefits the social realm through digital marketing.
5. To keep communication open through digital marketing.
6. To showcase the relationships and growth of students through digital marketing.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

American Express would be focused on helping grow the program through digital marketing which would have a larger positive impact on the school and school district by helping us (First Nations Studies) grow and get the cultural diversity message out through this huge communication tool of digital marketing.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

I have not focused on this area before or worked with any outside consultants before and I realize the importance of growing this area to maintaining positive communication and growth, therefore it is a priority.

2.

To use digital marketing in creating a website that will have lesson plans for other educators to access easily.

3.

To use digital marketing to grow the program, offer educational tools and serve as a platform to showcase students learning.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

The impact of the program has been received by the students, parents/guardians, other educators and school districts positively. I was asked to speak at an educator’s conference and other districts were interested in how to start up a program such as this one and interested in lesson plans which is when I realized the area of opportunity and direction the program needs to focus on. The social impact of the project/program has resulted in creating students who are able to be more culturally sensitive and appreciative of the diversity of Canadian Aboriginals.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

The future impact after receiving the professional support from American Express will be realizing growth within the school by offering a program such as this one to grade 8s, to have a website that serves as a platform to showcase students learning and projects, to have a user friendly website that serves as a communication tool, to have a website that has lesson plans available for other educators, to have a website that has useful links for learning tools such as Kurzweil, to have a teacher who is able to help others with creating their own websites and programs(shared learning). This project would be modern, diverse, fun, hands on, and a great tool for communication.

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

The Pangaea Project aims to target schools and organizations in India to teach youth about how to be the problem-solvers for issues in their communities. When this project started, it was a 6 month teaching fellowship in India with one partner school in Bhubaneswar, India. That partner school was identified by organizational connections. To make the project grow, it will be important to engage more audiences, ie schools and stakeholders, to want to participate in this project. Approaching schools, developing a "pitch", developing a marketing strategy and packet, tapping into the right networks, and knowing how and when to follow-up with schools will be essential in getting community buy-in for this socially transformative project.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

So far, 60 students have graduated from the pilot of Pangaea Project, the Global Leadership program through the Orbis Institute. Half of the students were from a poor "tribal" school, and half were from an upper-class private schools. The groups interacted, learned about one another, learned from one another, challenged their stereotypes, and formed friendships. Students participated in final projects which evaluated their self-efficacy to engage in changemaking behavior, and the students who were in this program greatly increased their confidence in their ability to make a difference in the world.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

I think the help from American Express can help Pangaea Project strategize ways to engage audiences across India and can help us find a way to market the program so schools across India will want to participate. We hope that we can train more teachers, teach more students, and start integrating a curriculum into the school system that addresses the challenges and history the India population faces and helps kickstart Indian student engagement in social advocacy.

Digital Marketing Strategy

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

Since Feeleez is already generating sales the goal is to increase the market penetration of Feeleez .

We need to increase brand awareness. Feeleez branding has already been well received by Ashoka, educators, therapists, parents and others but increasing awareness is crucial.

We need to establish channel/distribution partners to introduce not only our mission but also our product.

We need to develop a more enhanced digital market presence through additional search engine optimization.

We need to expand into other, more defined, markets. Feeleez is a small business, and thus far our focus has been on local and internet sales.

Also, our project is in great need of consulting help, especially with regard to developing a SWOT analysis for the company. Aid of this sort will allow us to better understand the market in which we play.

There is a need for Feeleez in both the marketplace and the social structure of our community so once consumers become aware of our product they are excited to forge a relationship with Feeleez. In this light our challenge is simply to make our mission and our product better known and profound social impact develops from there.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Communication. We strive to be extremely timely, empathetic, and sincere in our communications with our partnerships.

2.

Mission driven. Our message is simple and direct. Supporting children and caregivers in developing empathy is what we do.

3.

Innovative. Our product and aesthetic are unique. We aim to bring this fresh form of emotional education to our partnerships.

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Nathan McTague and I (Natalie Christensen) are the heart and soul of the Feeleez organization. We have created a product, manufactured it, and have sales to show for it. Feeleez is now at a point where we need help taking it to the next level. We consider sales to be the benchmark for success in that regard.

We believe that a focus on the centerpiece of Feeleez- Matching Game, makes the most sense at this point. We have found that the game is often the initial purchase our customers make and that this purchase serves as the bridge to further purchases of additional products and services.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

No, we have not received help from outside consultants before. Our success thus far has been entirely based on word of mouth, social media marketing, and a successful product that fills a need in the marketplace.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

Access to Amex's ability to transform Feeleez by linking into, or creating a strategy for establishing larger distribution.

2.

Benefit from Amex's ability to elevate the level of our brand - i.e. make Feeleez a household name.

3.

Utilize Ashoka and AMEX to help deliver our mission of empathy.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Feeleez has been in business for five years. In that time we have developed five potent products, a website, two social media blogs, and a system of emotional support for caregivers by way of coaching, consulting, courses, and community. We sell to accounts and customers throughout the United States and Canada and receive requests for distribution in Europe almost weekly. We have sold over four thousand empathy games alone which are shared with innumerable children via parents, therapists, teachers, and social workers.

Each time a child is offered the chance to play the Feeleez Empathy Game they are being offered the opportunity to be heard, to develop emotionally, and to establish a sense of empathy for others. We believe that the impact of greater empathy in the world is priceless.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

Receiving professional support from American Express would have a great impact on our company and on the world at large. Feeleez would use this support to grow our audience and penetrate further markets. This not only makes a difference to the bottom line of our company, (increasing our sales many times over), but to the social community in general. For each game purchased by a parent, or teacher, there are many children that have access to that game. The game symbolizes the opportunity to develop emotionally. This increased emotional awareness and sense of empathy is then shared with that child's circle - including children on the playground, adults in their neighborhood, and members of their family. Empathy is the antidote to aggression and bullying, and the foundation for peace.

As a result of the poor quality of education, many young people faced severe learning disabilities and often dropped out of school after class 5 or 6.

Pertumbuhan (eksperimen Anda sudah dijalankan, dan mulai dikembangkan)

What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, share what is innovative about your approach.

Kutumb was founded in 2002 to address the gap in the education system that is accessible to the children living in the underprivileged sections of society (in urban slums). Many of these children went to government schools and had challenges in learning due to lack of infrastructure available (or unavailable) in these schools. As a result of the poor quality of education, many young people faced severe learning disabilities and often dropped out of school after class 5 or 6. Kutumb's main goal was to make learning a fun through non-traditional methods and creative processes,to address different learning needs in children, inculcate the value of self-learning in them and prevent them from dropping out. Building language skills for a holistic personality development is the focus at Kutumb.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

The organisation is striving to develop the alternate-education program, INDRADHANUSH. We are trying to bring a more strctured and planned approach to the program to add value to the existing practices. The biggest goal of the organisation is to engage young people and educate them to enable personality development for better career options and also to serve as intelligent and healthy members of their community who will be the spearheads of social change and progress in the coming future. The 3 top priorities of the organisation is therefore to build internal resources and facilitate organisational growth.
a. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
b. Build staff capacities to implement the the alternate education and sports based life-skills to promote holistic development. The two main values that will be promoted through Kutumb's core programmes are: i. gender sensitivity and equity and ii. active pluralism or promote ideas of understanding and celebrating identities, communities, ethnicity and cultural heritages and
c. The 3rd priority will be to use resources to train young people as community leaders and create peer-leaders from each of the 3 communities where work.
Kutumb envisions that eventually all of the programmes at Kutumb will be spearheaded by Kutumb peer-leaders and they will receive due honorariums to motivate them as most of them belong to extremely poor backgrounds. All of these programmes will need much of investment in terms of energy, ideas, time and financial resources and hence resource mobilization and fund-raising will be at the base of all these initiatives.

However, this means the growth of the orgaization has to be synchronized with the growth of the staff and aims and goals have to be clearly defined. The staff need to monitored and evaluated at regular intervals to boost performance and keep motivation levels high. To constantly update with the latest techniques and best practices across development organisations all over the world.

1.

2.

Transparency

3.

Accountability

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Funding and resources are a big issue and hence resource building will be a major need. Capacity building in the staff will be another crucial area of work. The motivation of the staff and synchronizing their goals with the organisations goals will be very crucial too.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

Previously we have worked with consultants from IBM through an independent initiative called 'Whiteboard'. Whiteboard members meed regularly and help NGOs build capacities for better functioning. Whiteboard members are all mostly from corporate backgrounds and some are from development disorganization who have enough experience on administration, fund-raising and management and impart their knowledge as volunteer-consultants.

Kutumb is a grass-roots level organisation that began working on education for children living in the slums and streets of Delhi in 2002.The original community - the Khan Market Labour Camp Slums were demolished in February, 2009 and mostly displaced to Savda-Ghevra J.J. Colony, 35-40 kms away from Khan Market. So Kutumb's students are mostly from immigrant, servant families living in the servant quarters around Khan Market, Pandara Road, Golf Links, Lodhi Estate and Kotla. In 2010, we expanded Goal of Life, Kutumb's life-skills based football programme to Nizamuddin and in 2011 program won an award! In 2011, we connected to Kutumb's original community in Savda-Ghevra and initiated a health program and started a computer resource center in 2012.

Creating sustainable changes through empathy and youth empowerment

Youths in modernized communities are becoming increasingly driven by material needs. Envisage Education (Envisage) believes that every human being has an inner good-side. However, this good-side of human beings is often clouded by the consumerism culture that we were brought up in. This resulted in most youths having a perception that only those who are wealthy are successful people, and that they should only pursue material needs to fulfill themselves.

Envisage makes use of empathy simulation games to put the youths in situations of the less fortunate and to let them experience the side of life that they do not know. This brings out their inner empathy to the less fortunate and instill in them, the need to be active contributors and positive change-makers to the society.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

1. Outreach to more youths (higher take up of the program by institutions)

3. Development of more empathy tools and design-thinking frameworks to better educate the youths

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

Being in a growth stage, Envisage in currently restructuring the revenue model and operational efficiency. Due to the intensive manpower and cost constraints in conducting the projects, part-timers sometimes produce deficient results, which can undermine the effectiveness of the programs that Envisage teaches to the youth. Although the founders are passionate of the social cause, the inadequacy of staff productivity can become detrimental to the organization's reputation.

Envisage would like to obtain advice on developing the existing workforce to become more productive. At the same time, to advise the management on the various strategies to revise the revenue and operating model, to achieve greater efficiency and profitability.

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Respect

2.

Trust and support

3.

Transparency

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

The support will be focused on the organization overall. As the adoption rate of the service is relatively high, Envisage believes that the key area of improvement, currently, would be to increase the efficiency of the organization, so as to be in a better position to handle a larger volume of orders.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

Yes. Envisage has provided training to the existing staff and revamped the previous revenue model before. However, Envisage found that there is a delicate need to balance between the wants of the market buyers and the ability for Envisage to deliver, while maintaining the profit margin. Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

Improved revenue and operational model that increases productivity and profitability

2.

Greater productivity and involvement from the existing staff

3.

To develop future recruitment strategies to properly train and educate new recruits

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Ever since the incorporation 1 year ago, while the founders were still students, Envisage has reached out to more than 2000 students with the program. The most direct impact would be the rate of volunteerism among these students. As a progression from Envisage's curriculum, after instilling the inner empathy within participants, students were engaged in voluntary work in NGOs and VWOs. There were also several interesting entrepreneurial projects that were developed by the students, to benefit the less fortunate. For pictures of these projects, please visit www.envisageeducation,com.sg.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

With greater staff productivity and a more efficient revenue model, Envisage will be able to expand faster and take on higher volumes of requests. More youth will be exposed to the program and Envisage will be able to cultivate more social-entrepreneurial ideas from them.

It is a passion towards fellow human beings since they are corrupted and not able to live peacefully with good mind and body care. Often we can find divorces, family conflicts, growing population of the aged, alchohol abuse and disesases are suppressing a common man's growth. To some extend I can do some sort of corrections to this beautiful life, since I got personal experince with my family

Health care sector Gap filling techy-Transformation

Explain what the "innovation" is about, e.g., is it the idea and/or the model you use to accomplish the idea, or your understanding of the target population, etc.?

“Fill the Gaps in Transforming Health Systems between traditional health care takers and technological health care takers with the society.”
The innovation, is mainly about the society which comprises of Children, Parents & Teachers, since these three are the core group anIn the recent 2013-14 Indian union budget a special sanction was allotted as “169 crore given for develoIn the recent 2013-14 Indian union budget a special sanction was allotted as “169 crore given for development of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani (Natural medicine) and homeopathy”. This shows the traditional medical care is necessary along with allopathy. For the past one year in Tamilnadu, South India the disease of “dengue” fever (due to mosquito) is fast spreading and kills so many innocent civilians as God’s curse. But, the natural medicine cures such disease with very cheaper cost when compare to allapathy.
So, such techniques will be more expensive and lack the versatility required to be of value to the lesser developed world markets. d we should mainly realign the incentives in the healthcare systems among the above three groups only. The gap between Children <-> Parents, Parents <-> Teachers, Children <-> Teachers and Children <-> Society are to be reduced or filled in order to get potential solutions to change the world.
The target population is every person in the world or at least every person who is able to hear typically from age 10 -> 80 yrs.

Describe how your innovation model is distinct from any other organization in your field?

Nowadays so many NGOs and researchers have sought to use communication method to measure the relationship between the above groups. Lot of orphanages, mentally retarded homes, old age homes, physically challenged homes, etc. But here in my innovation the children, parents, teachers and the society at large should able to realign the gap by this modernism. The Government is not able to monitor such projects and the Insurance such firms are targeted the middle, upper middle class and top class only. Here in this project, no competition, no supplier and the ultimate workforce to be in need to carry out this innovation. The workforce may be in all ages, sectors & religion in order to reach easily to all sectors of poor and rich. There is no other comparable technology in this field.

What type of operating environment and internal organizational factors make your innovation successful?

We need persons or group with a direct interest, involvement, or small investment in something in transforming the world. A person who has interests in the success of the plans or systems is the vital operating environment.
An aged person Mr.Anna Hazare in India started anti corruption movement and it failed at last due to money involvement through corporate giants for such movement.

Hence, mouth to mouth, one to one operation in society and mass targeted groups of Schools and colleges are to be organized in a well attractive manner through a well planned network. The program consists of encouragement, entertainment, cultural events, Expose talent, small drama, audio visual, etc..

How do you make sure you constantly innovate in light of (potential) external challenges, or your growth plan?

Self help group consists of women, men and youth, retired staff, part-time employees to be formed and motivate them to spend their time usefully. Every individual should worry about their body health and mind health. Hence, it is the way in which we should penetrate into their mind and do their routine work along with physical & mental exercises. This is simple but the way in which through entertainment, and other expenses are must to attract such crowd.
Hence, we require funding to implement our non-profit cum business plan. We have encountered a huge body of skeptical opinion and also what appears to be an increasingly organized body of resistance. It is simply an awareness campaign along with self confession crusade to progress gentle and steady in their balance life.

Care for rare diseases

Categories along the health continuum you are covering [select all that apply]

Prevention, Detection, Intervention, Follow-up, Long-term care, Social integration.

Please describe in more detail: what problem are you trying to solve in the organization's specific context?

It is everyone’s responsibility to preserve our body & mind in good form. But so far, 90% of the society is not worry about the maintenance of BODY & MIND, since it is a technologically developed era and most of the community people are duty conscious. Nowadays, 50% of the youth are rushing fast towards earning money. Anxiety becomes the cause of all the problems. Hence, a person should have a strong BODY as well as MIND will only get REAL success in their personal life as well as in their family/society. We have to create awareness to know better knowledge about the treatment and follow up by clubbing the traditional health care and modern technology health care at a cheaper(affordable) price with genuine medicines. Teachers & doctors should play major role in this innovation.

Core strategies of your business model [select all that apply]

Approaches to behavioral change at the individual level, Patient-centered design, Redesign of the public healthcare system for more efficiency (in terms of processes, structure etc.), New/redefined roles for healthcare service provision, New financing strategies for health.

We categorise the school children & college students as:
Normal, Physically challenged, Patient,
The parents of the school and college students are as:
Economically backward, Middle/working class, illiterates, Top class
The teachers and society clause are as: Men and women in Normal and with disease.
Patient category is concerned, It is difficult for any doctor to make an accurate diagnosis of disease. As you can see, nowadays it is not easy to get genuine medicine and doctors; hence, it is our duty to give solutions for their exact disease. The ultimate aim of this innovation in this category is to reduce the cost, fast recovery, good medical care and genuine medicine with the help of allopathy and natural medicines like homeopathy Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani.

What are your vision and overall objectives?

Overall vision and objective is simple but firm in the following levels by giving practical solutions. “A beautiful life does not just happen. It is built daily with prayers, yoga, truthfulness, sincerity, sacrifice & love and May the beautiful life always is yours”
a)To reduce the cost at all level
b)Get the genuine medical person and product
c)Time saving
d)Body and Mind care at ease
e)Live simple in doing simple (practice the simplicity)
f)Savings from their salary for their future prospects.
g)Overall developing of “self-control” amidst anxiety.
h)Guide for the future opportunity/career
The team volunteers should approaches to behavioral changes at all level, Patient-centered level and do necessary correction if found any violation in their life span.

What is your value proposition?

Meet all sectors regularly and shape their life with limited approach. Initially we start with school and college students along with their parents to know their children very well and vice versa.
In our society, lots of divorces are increasing and because of that also the future children are not able to frame their life with humanity. So, it is better to counseling family wise to get good result if possible.
The health awareness is the major agenda for this innovation and periodical check up is necessary for the age above 40.

Who is your customer(s)?

Our customers are every individual, patient, doctors and on the whole the vast majority of the world's population.

What approaches to you use to reach your customers?

By using the technology we can be made available by internet for the literates and however for illiterates we can meet them at one common place near their livelihood.
Our policy is to deal with educated and uneducated common civilians alongwith competent medical doctors, to train them to use the technology, and to support them to treat patients easily. The dedicated doctors are benefitted and the patients who can not afford to go to high class hospitals are also benefitted. It is better to identify the correct & suitable doctors in time for the diseases.

What are your primary activities?

Our primary activities are focused upon proving to fill the gap between the traditional health care and modern health care medical concept. Although it has been used in create greater value in health for society. Prevention is better than cure is the older concept in Indian tradition and we have to motivate the society at large to take extra care in maintaining their body and mind as well as consult the expertise in time.

Who are your peers and competitors? What problems could these players pose to your success or growth?

The whole medical field is hugely ultramodern and resistant to change in order to earn more and more money. People make decisions based upon what they have seen and done in their lives. New and troublemaking technologies are hard for the older, decision-maker to handle. So, we must align with the modern medical team with the old traditional medical team in order to get correct result with cheaper cost.
A range of medical technologies are developed and in use are currently being well developed. No other technology in development, at least to our knowledge at such competitive cost. People can go to any hospital and get a cheap and best medical care. Every where the good medical care with affordable prices will only prevails, since they will come to our track to “serve the humanity”.

What other challenges - individual, organizational, or environmental – are you currently facing or might hinder future success of your business, and how do you plan to overcome those?

I can say clearly that initially the new technology medical team will object such innovation as well as the traditional medical team will also object for the implement at the beginner level. But at later stage both will come closer in order to serve the society. Hope, the Government will opt the opinion with their legal team to organize such technological gathering.

Briefly describe your growth strategy going forward

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. The growth of the business will depend upon the level of investment in man power and funds.

What dimensions for growth are you currently targeting for your innovation [select all that apply]

New customer group(s).

What makes your business "ready" for growth?

Since, it is depends upon the survival problem with a greater segment of doctors community, we can not go directly in the innovation. It can not be used immediately. But it works, and appears to work very well at the later stage.

What are your key growth objectives?

The Key growth objective: to get this technology used everywhere.
Nowadays "depression"' is a common disease and it known as emotions. However, in medical circles, term depression often refers to the symptom of a psychological disorder. Depression can ruin your personal as well as your social life. Patients often felt depressed hence, the team should eradicate depression at large.

What is your timeframe for growth, in the short and mid-term? What are the growth milestones and key activities going forward?

The time-frame for growth is dependent upon the scale of investment and makes ready the alignment of sector wise people. Initial time spend will be based on the program on development of volunteers to undergo this innovation. Then the team will undergo physical entrance into the society with regular and various phases.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

To be frank I am telling with you, the innovation is the best one to give awareness among all type of communities’ people, but this progress has been hampered by the regulatory requirements in the major world markets. Even the Government may oppose this with the help of medical boards through legal procedures in order to slow down this process.

What methods for quantification of social impact are you applying (if at all)?

To fill the gap in the health sector is not an easy job. We have not reached the stage when & where we can satisfactorily answer this question, since it is based on the acceptance of the common people.

Could your solution work in other geographies or regions? If so, where?

It can work in all environments with updated equipped man power and adequate funds,

What is your projected impact over the next 1-3 years?

We can implement this innovation slowly and steadily in order to sow the right path among the school children and so on. Hence, our progress is entirely dependent upon securing funds or investment. Accordingly it is necessary to continue to collide with medical team, the scientific argument, seek clinical and academic partners.
If we secure the required level of funding we can envisage introducing this innovation technology in all world markets for research and commercial use. If we do, the society will bloom with a change in the next few years.

Pertumbuhan (eksperimen Anda sudah dijalankan, dan mulai dikembangkan)

What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, share what is innovative about your approach.

The technology industry is growing and suffers from talent shortage. Without immediate action, human capital deficits in the industry will only grow. At the same time, schools--and especially schools in low income communities--are not teaching the computer programming skills necessary to thrive in the 21st Century economy. In late Sept. 2012, we launched ScritptEd, an organization that brings computer programming education to students in high-needs schools, to address this problem. ScriptEd classes are held twice weekly at students' schools and are taught by volunteers from the tech industry. The program incorporates field trips and guest speakers to further engage students in the industry, and provides students with job-shadowing and internships opportunities in the summer.

What are your organization's top three priorities in the next year?

Our top three priorities in the next year are (1) to expand our program to additional schools and cities to serve more students, (2) to refine our curriculum, and (3) to secure enough money and resources to enable us to do both of these things.

Message & Brand Strategy

Based on your first choice of the eight technical categories you selected above, what is your specific project need? Please be specific!

As an organization that is approaching the end of its first iteration, we are looking forward to taking a step back to assess both what we've accomplished and what we can improve upon. More specifically, we would like to determine which areas of our organization need the most work in the upcoming year. Some questions that come to mind include: Would having a better social media presence help further our cause and grow our organization? How can we create a sustainable funding model? How can we best measure student achievement? How can we better delegate responsibilities to our volunteers? To which cities should we expand next? How do we secure the necessary resources to expand?

What three characteristics or qualities do you prioritize in working relationships/partnerships?

1.

Good Communication

2.

Open-mindedness

3.

Creating clear and specific goals and objectives

Will support from American Express be focused on your organization overall or a specific product/service? Please describe.

Support from American Express would be focused on our organization overall. As stated above, we've close to finishing the first school-year with our students and we would like to take a 'step-back' and better understand how our organization as a whole can both grow and operate more efficiently.

Have you focused on the above area previously? If so, please explain, including whether you have worked with outside consultants before.

We have focused on this area internally, but have not worked with outside consultants before. We created a growth plan when our program first launched, but it needs to be revisited and refined.

Are you able to commit 3-5 hours/wk over 10-12 weeks?

Yes

Are you able to meet virtually or at a convenient in-person location?

Yes

Are you able to meet in the city where your organization is based?

Rank your three intended outcomes of this project:

1.

Create a growth plan

2.

Create a budget and fundraising model that correlate with that growth plan

3.

Create more efficient organizational systems

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Since launching in September, 2012, we have provided computer programming instruction in HTML, CSS and Javascript to approximately 25 students in two high schools in Harlem, New York. We have engaged approximately 10 volunteers in our efforts. Our students and volunteers have gone on field trips and have completed job shadows at companies including The New York Times, General Assembly and Promgirl.com. We have secured internships at tech companies for two of our students for this summer, and plan to secure internships for another eight students.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

With support from American Express, our goal is to create a plan to expand our program to serve 350 students in 35 schools in two cities by September, 2014. In order to do this, we anticipate engaging approximately 125 volunteers. In doing this, ScriptEd will continue to grow its network of students, volunteers, companies and other stakeholders to promote the inclusion of computer science and technology education in high schools across the country.

Ide (yang Anda yakini layak diluncurkan)

The Need: What social or environmental problem are you trying to solve?

Help youth to determine their own future path. Nowadays, there are a lots of secondary school graduated students lost their direction in their next step of education which require them to choose their major to study. Most of them are unable to find the field that they interested in and also capable of.This is the problem that my idea is going to solve.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

The solution is to start a web app which can guide and lead youth to find their own major in study. The web app will ask several questions to the user which will lead user steps closer to their interest. The web app has most of the tertiary education (major, field, subject) information. After user found their interested major in study, the web app can list all the institution/university that offer the major by location (or any other categories). Besides that, groups of users can discuss a particular major in forum section.

The Solution: Why is this solution innovative for your company and industry?

There are no much similar web app existed currently. Helping lost direction youth to find their future path is something more than innovative because it can help more innovative youth to use their innovative abilities in particular field.

C-STEM

Like many pioneering programs, CSTEM is far ahead of its peers in incorporating STEM learning within the core Pre K-12 curriculum. This advantage places CSTEM on a path to being a segment leader within a rapidly evolving field. A key challenge is the public education bureaucracy and the philanthropic world are only slowly catching on to this new integrated learning approach; an approach suited to preparing students to meet the workforce needs of the future.

Tell us about yourself/your team.

We use STEM to inspire and empower underserved and underrepresented K-12 students and community members through interactive professional dialogues, leadership development programming, and hands-on activities.

What makes you an intrapreneur? What are the skills, capabilities, and personality traits that make you an intrapreneur?

At World STEM Works, we embody the concept of the intrapreneur because we go to great lengths to stand out from the vast pool of STEM organizations in three key ways. Firstly, our widely-defined goals in STEM traverse multiyear timeframes and global geography, rather than following STEM-promotion trends set by existing organizations, which tend to push dry, technical education or aim for arbitrary point score increases. Secondly, our programs not only target students and the younger generation, but make sure to include community members, parents, teachers, and outside mentors to create an atmosphere where STEM conversation is welcome and normal. Lastly, we are unique in our approach, going in at a grassroots level through a network of university undergraduate student-run chapters.

Pilih tahap yang paling sesuai untuk solusi Anda:

Penyekalaan (langkah selanjutnya adalah menumbuhkan dampak pada skala regional atau bahkan global)

The Need: What social or environmental problem are you trying to solve?

World STEM Works (WSW) is a newly-founded global undergraduate student organization that strives to combat the US general public's steady and alarming decline in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) interest by educating and inspiring K-12 students and community members to pursue a passion in STEM.

Our four core goals are:

To inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and physicians.
To create a more scientifically literate public to make better informed science policy decisions.
To foment the maturation of civic leaders among students and professional to engage with society.
To build a network of international scientists and engineers to share resources and knowledge, and set the stage upon which solve some of the world's greatest problems can be solved.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

WSW grows and coordinates Empower chapters at universities across the globe, who in turn reach out to local K-12 schools and communities. This four pronged approach called the Empower model consists of:
(1) school dialogues with panels of civic scientists and hands-on STEM activity modules, which showcase the ubiquitous applications of STEM and innovation to our daily lives
(2) community dialogues with STEM leaders, bringing together students, community members, and leaders in the STEM community to inform the public about science diplomacy & policy, encouraging dialogue attendees to both develop and act upon well-reasoned beliefs and take an active part in today’s science policy decisions
(3) the Empower Challenge encourages university students to assemble a team, create an Empower chapter and put the Empower Model into practice
(4) cultivating young leaders through leadership development modules such as proper speaking, tailoring a message for an audience, and personality tests

The Solution: Why is this solution innovative for your company and industry?

We bridge the gaps overlooked by others in our field by encompassing all age ranges with the ultimate goal of creating a global STEM community, we teach by sparking passion and sowing incentive instead of rote learning, force, or repetition, and we cultivate leaders and civic scientists with a working knowledge of science diplomacy—a combination of initiatives seen in no other organization.

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities.

We will delineate the impact of our solution by description two aspects of it in more detail: school dialogues and Empowered Leadership Development Programs.

School dialogues make a difference in that (a) we spark healthy curiosity, creativity, and an appreciation for how seemingly common objects or ideas are deeply rooted in STEM; selected examples of dialogue topics include the physics behind Wi-Fi, the science of art conservation, and the psychology of aircraft navigation. (b) School dialogues include one of ten activity modules. All modules emphasize hands-on application and the underlying scientific principles, such as Bottle Rockets for Physics Demonstration, Pulley Tug of War, or Mouse Trap Car Construction and Racing.

Empowered Leadership Development Programs (ELDP) transform university students into civic scientists, training them in authentic leadership through hour long leadership modules (12 currently available on the website) such as proper public speaking, tailoring a message for a specific audience, and personality assessments like DESC and MBTI. ELDP skills are directly applicable during school, live, social interactions, and community outreach.

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

We consider our competitors to be anyone working in the field of social innovation through STEM. Some examples are the STEM Education Coalition, Teach for All, Science Gallery, and World Wide Workshop. While these and other competitors pose a challenge in that they could very well come up with an approach or methodology that is more effective than ours, none takes the unique, 4-pronged stance (previously described) with roots in science diplomacy and the civic scientist that we do. Also, we have taken measures to continuously gather and analyze data through IRB-approved surveys that measure the effectiveness of our efforts among students and members of the public. This data guides our efforts to continually improve the Empower model to stand out from competitors in our field.

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world.

WSW began as Rice Empower, our flagship university chapter established by WSW co-founder Kareem Ayoub during his undergraduate education at Rice University, in Houston, Texas. Rice Empower did many of the activities WSW does today, such as K-12 outreach through leadership development and dialogues. From the positive results and impact of Rice Empower initiatives, Kareem and other Rice Empower members soon realized that the Empower Model approach had a far greater potential impact. This lead to a partnership between Kareem Ayoub and other current co-founder, Thierry Rignol, also of Rice University, to the founding of multiple Empower chapters across the globe, and the eventual founding of the umbrella non-profit organization, WSW, incorporated in April 2012.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

WSW was incorporated in Texas in April 2012, and received IRS tax-exempt status in December 2012. Since its establishment, the organization has expanded from its flagship Rice University Empower chapter in Houston, Texas to its ten current university chapters, five of which are in the United States (Duke, Georgia Institute of Technology, Johns Hopkins and the University of Texas at Austin) and 5 abroad (UK, India, China & Singapore). We anticipate the addition of five more US chapters in the next couple of months (Arizona State, MIT, Stanford, Texas A&M, Harvard and Yale). All chapters meet chapter standards described on our website of outreach events and activities held each year. A recent 1200-student study conducted by Rice Empower showed that 91% of K-12 students who partook in dialogues or activities were more seriously considering a STEM career.

What is your projected impact over the next 1 to 3 years?

We aim for 25 active global chapters by the end of 2013, and 65 by the end of 2015. Each university chapter will reach out to 10% of K-12 students within a 10-mile radius, and 3% of community members within the same radius. We also have a civic scientist and STEM social network in the works, and have much hope in its growth and conception to be established in at least 20 geographically and ethnically diverse countries by the end of 2015.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

Our major barrier will be fund-acquisition, as we have been funded primarily through grants, and on a chapter-by-chapter basis. We plan to overcome this by applying for as many realistic and feasible grants and competitions as we can, networking to get our name and message out, and representing ourselves with integrity to the public through competitions and initiatives such as through Ashoka Changemakers.

What is the benefit or value you're creating for your business?

We're creating valuable social change in the form of a STEM-educated younger generation, who will go on to pursue STEM careers, have opportunities they otherwise would have unknowingly forgone, and go on to solve some of society's most pressing problems. We also hope to increase STEM awareness on a global scale, and build a community of STEM professionals and students.

How are you leveraging internal resources (funds, time, knowledge, etc.) to support this initiative?

Through networking and conscientious searching, we've put together a team of chapter leadership, and World STEM Works leadership with the experience and drive necessary to get our initiative fully to scale. Our finance division is applying for funds, and our leadership directors are coordinating chapter dynamics and ensuring that each chapter adheres to predefined standards and quality. We're leveraging internal resources in a prudent manner to ensure optimum output and long-term stability.

Expand on your answer, explaining the long-term funding and support plan.

As we continue to obtain funds, we'll build up our finance department to have a constant stream of grant and funding applications flowing in and out of our organization. As a non-profit organization, we also welcome donations and continue to consolidate existing partnerships, and create new ones. Building up from a $6,600 yearly surplus in 2012, we're aiming for a $10,000 surplus in 2013 and an eventual surplus in the $100,000 range by 2015.

Tell us about your partnerships across your company and externally that are key to your project's success.

Some key partnerships and associations made with World STEM Works are through university chapters, which link World STEM Works to various universities worldwide, through various organizations in those chapters such as Rice's Baker Institute, and through competitions we have performed in and received recognition, such as Dell's Social Innovation Challenge, and Clinton Global University Initiative.

What internal support have you gotten for your project? What kind of push-back have you received?

The internal support at World STEM Works comes from our dedicated and knowledgeable leadership team. Our per-chapter leadership teams are just as strong and in close communication with us at regular intervals. We've received minor push-back in the form of not being able to obtain grants or funding, or doubts raised by newly-established chapters, but the vast majority have all been resolved quickly and without further problems.

The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

With the proper infrastructure, information can make the world more just, free, and sustainable. However, information, like any resource, does not get distributed equitably. My vision is to create an infrastructure for a more equitable distribution of information.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

Obviously, this is a broad vision and will require many components. To begin, I will implement three: One, a phone application with live inventory and GPS tracking to produce analytics for an organization's best practices (of course, "best" depends on the organization). Two, a website, "GroupThink" for crowdsourcing ideas. Individuals can post ideas or problems and the internet community can refine the idea collaboratively. Three, a national bus tour to promote sustainable business and entrepreneurship (similar to what "Invisible Children" does. Profits from all these endeavors would go towards providing the technology and education (phones, to start) for accessing information to those who presently cannot.

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

Phone App Example: Whole Foods has two hundred pounds of organic onions and 100 pounds of chicken in Southern California that will, presently, spoil if not sold that day. Instead, a soup kitchen can view this inventory dilemma and offer to buy the onions and chicken at 10% of their value. Whole Foods minimizes profit loss and the soup kitchen has more food to offer. A homeless person can look up where the food will be and reserve a seat.

Website: A college student from California wonders why in Massachusetts, where he attends school, there in insufficient signage for navigating suburban streets. He posts this observation and suddenly government employees, private business, and creative thinkers can collaborate on finding solutions. Since this is done publicly, any malicious exploitation of this dilemma becomes much more difficult.

Bus Tour: A bus shows up at Harvard University at the beginning of fall semester. A young, intelligent, and passionate team exits the vehicle and talks for 15 minutes to an advanced economics class. Sitting in the class, John Doe, a college senior currently applying to I-Banking positions and extremely busy with school work, learns about the incredible, and little known, opportunities that have only just come into existence. He realizes he can make money to pay off is college loans and actually do good too. Instead of working at Goldman Sachs, he takes a job with LGT Venture Philanthropy.

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

Our competition is any person or group that can profit from controlling information. For example, a hedge fund using insider information for investments. We will use our power to publicly share and deliver relevant information to the world. This information could range from a free concert in the park happening that night to methods of navigating censored websites for Chinese citizens.

The challenge is that though information is free, the resources to spread information are not. Those with that power presently want to continue to hold that power, like we all would. New technology, especially phone apps, are like the wild west right now. The successful colonizers of this new world will define the future of humanity.
