With “Leading Changemakers” Ashoka Germany founded the most practical youth driven Think-and-Do
Tank to promote innovative and entrepreneurial change by everyone:
- tap the full potential of youth changemaking and double the number of engaged youth in Germany
- promote social entrepreneurial, self-determined youth participation
Problem
Youth need to become drivers of local change, within existing initiatives or even their own ventures since this is how they best improve their life-skills and become part of civil society. The Leading Changemakers Think&Do Tank provides outstanding young achievers the opportunity to:
• Improve the general conditions for social change
• Realize and use their potential and expand their networks
• Show their peers that they are part of the solution and not of the problem, changing their world by
becoming Changemakers
Ashoka aims at changing the playing field for societal participation creating new Changemaker and thus doesn’t compete with existing organizations. The Leading Changemaker actively take parte in the conceptualization, design and testing of open-source modules that Ashoka provides to youth organizations
all over the sector.
Solution
Leading Changemakers (LCM) as The Think & Do Tank of co-creation experts for innovative youth sector concepts (e.g Changemaker School, Changemaker City).
The Projects in Germany
The Leading Changemakers are young experts if it comes to youth changemaking. Jointly they cocreate
new and existing initiatives that make it easier and more fun for youth to become active as the
- award-winning YouthChangemakerCity concept
- ChangemakerSchool concept
- Co-creation of Telefonica’s CSR Program ThinkBig
Example
The Problem in Germany
Only 35% of Youth get socially committed but an unlocked potential of 49% stays interested but passive.
Societal barriers hinder youth from becoming Changemakers in an entrepreneurial, self-determined way.
The Vision for Germany
We want to use all of the potential for youth engagement. 80% of all young people integrate themselves
into their environment, become active themselves and create a problem solving culture from which
Germany profits in society, economically and culturally.
