This discussion is about A Digital Newsroom where Journalists and Citizens in the Arab World Can Work Together.
This is an excellent idea and it looks like you have already made a lot of progress for a startup! Could you talk a little bit about how these great partnerships and funding were made possible? Also, I was curious to hear a little more detail on how the citizen journalist contributions are meshed with the traditional newsroom reporters.
Thanks for your comment, we're glad you like the idea! This project is itself still in the startup phase, but Meedan as an organization has been around since 2005. The digital newsroom project builds on Meedan's work on our cross-language media sharing platform news.Meedan.net and our experience crowdsourcing translation of tweets on Curated.By during #SidiBouzid, #Jan25 and onwards.
How the citizen journalist content integrates with the traditional newsroom reports could take a number of forms, depending on the publishing format. It could be bringing photos, tweets, and video into a live blog on a breaking news event, or it could be a collection of opinions from citizens gathered and published in a print newspaper. We hope to explore several different options with this!
