The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?
Malaria is estimated to cause 300 - 660 million incidents of illness worldwide, kills over 1 million people, and costs Africa about US$ 12 billion each year. It causes anemia and abortion among pregnant women, and of loss of working hours . Average cost of treating malaria each time is about $8, which is not affordable to everyone as an adult is likely to contract malaria at least once a year. There is also a problem of typhoid fever that recurs among some victims repeatedly in spite of receiving all the necessary conventional medication, and frequent attacks of flu and common colds in our society that needs to be alleviated. Fending off these diseases with natural remedies is better than cure as there are still many people who can not afford vaccines against colds, flu and typhoid fever.
The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!
My newly published book and workshops offer expert guidance on making optimal choices of bedding each night necessary to maximize intake of fresh air to effectively prevent malaria and fend off other infections. My book describes above mentioned new method of practicing aerotherapy alongside the old method of practicing aerotherapy once used in some parts of Europe. Fresh air is free medicine provided people adopt these two methods to exploit it. The scientific basis of aerotherapy lies in oxygen present in fresh air that avails our immune cells with ample energy from aerobic cell respiration. This energy drives protein synthesis to ensure quick proliferation of immune cells & molecules that rid off an infection before it becomes a disease. Getting ample oxygen also facilitates the break down of microbes by phagocytes in an immune process called phagocytosis before an infection progresses into a disease. My book is available at Amazon.com entitled: Medicinal use of fresh air & water.
The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities
Our model of training people to adopt aerotherapy puts prevention before cure by giving people ideas to safeguard their own health.People have been waiting till they fall ill before they start searching for a cure, which is costly in terms of irreversible abortions and lost time for productivity caused by malaria, and expensive medicines needed to cure it. Currently one just has to buy and read my book, which is a self help guide with simplified instructions on maximizing intake of fresh air as a natural therapy then modify one's bedding patterns and lifestyle accordingly. If there is any question then the learner can log on to our blog or website to submit it for clarifications. People with underlying conditions or complications will be referred to seek additional guidance from qualified medical experts. I have started lobbying policy makers to adopt aerotherapy knowledge and skills in school curricula and public health education programs, backed by my substantial collection of scientific evidence and scientific references for practicing aerotherapy from my last 10 year research program. I also plan to train trainers among some NGOs on aerotherapy practices so that they can train other people in adult literacy classes and workshops besides selling my health handbooks to the public at large. I plan to present aerotherapy reports in scientific conferences and publish articles in science journals in order to attain global understanding and practice of aerotherapy. This model of preventive health care will certainly cut across borders.
The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?
These include companies that sell mosquito nets for preventing transmission of malaria and companies that supply drugs for cure of malaria, flu, colds, ulcers, est. My solution requires only one time purchase to adopt aerotherapy whereas one would have to buy mosquito nets from time to time which makes nets expensive in the long run yet aerotherapy combats more than one disease. My solution is affordable with quality thus better than drugs that are normally either expensive or affordable counterfeit drugs that endanger lives. These loopholes among my peers have created the need for my safe and affordable natural therapy. My competitors are well established and command a lot of funding and media attention, which leaves me with limited avenue for funding, and limited room to sell my ideas.
This Entry is about (Issues)
Social Impact
Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world.
I was living in Jinja at that time. I had been suffering from a recurrent typhoid fever for over two years until one night in June 2002 that I decided to sleep over night leaving my feet exposed to air to increase my intake of fresh air. This choice of bedding facilitated relaxation and cooling of my body, which increased my intake of fresh air. I had the best quality of sleep that night that I had not had for such along time and woke up in a far better physical condition. This discovery awoke me to a new possibility of stimulating natural healing of the body by ensuring sufficient exposure of some of our body parts to air as we sleep overnight. I carried on with this new approach of natural therapy until i was completely relieved of that typhoid fever. It was around the same time that i found out that application of aerotherapy could enable me to fend off flu/cold infections within a shorter period of time than before.
Please describe the goal of your initiative; outline what you are trying to achieve
The goal of my initiative is to raise global awareness on medicinal value of fresh air so that people can gain maximum natural immunity to various diseases from intake of adequate fresh air.
I aim at equipping adults all over the world with safe, affordable and effective methods of practicing aerotherapy so as to enable low income earners save money that they have been spending on drug treatments.
People should be able to prevent malaria through adopting and adhering to the practice of aerotherapy.
They should be able to fend off flu/colds easily by maximizing intake of fresh air and drinking water thereby reducing the spread of these infections.
People should be able to prevent nightmares and enjoy enhanced quality of sleep with the help of my new method of aerotherapy.
What has been the impact of your solution to date?
I permanently recovered from a recurrent typhoid fever that had tortured me for over two years during which it was not responding to conventional medicines. My solution has saved me from spending money on treatment of malaria as I spent nearly eight years without contracting malaria since 2002 whereas i used to get malaria every year. I have saved at least $15 each year that I spent without falling ill with malaria. I no longer have to buy drugs to treat flu/colds besides the time that I save from reduced lengths of those infections. This solution enabled me to stem sneezing and inhibit secretion of mucus stopped me from passing these infections to other people around me. I no longer take drugs for ulcers since I adopted aerotherapy, which stimulates natural healing of the body whereas i had briefly used those drugs over ten years ago. I hardly get nightmares since optimal intake of air as one sleeps prevents occurrence of nightmares and thereby enhances my quality of sleep.
What is your projected impact over the next five years?
I expect to equip as many as 20 million adults with knowledge and skills for practicing aerotherapy over the next five years. Everyone who adopts my solution is likely to experience less or zero occurrence of malaria incidents each year and save at least $15 each year as an adult. Aerotherapy stems sneezing and inhibits secretion of mucus thereby reducing the spread of flu/colds in the society. This will minimize public expenditure on curing these viral infections and associated maladies. My clients will cut expenditure on treatment of malaria, flu, colds, recurrent typhoid and ulcers. My clients will enjoy better quality of sleep and gain a better level of physical well being. My program should also increase productivity of the working age groups and lower maternal mortality.

Sustainability
Tell us about your partnerships
My priority is to establish partnerships with African Union department of Science & technology to facilitate the spread of my health innovation across Africa, which bears the brunt of infectious diseases.I am currently bidding to have my health innovation recognized by our National government as i advocate for my innovation to be included in public health policy for primary health care lessons in schools since my invention and discoveries are supported by sound scientific facts and literature. Most public health sectors in Africa need affordable solutions like mine.
Are you currently targeting other specific populations, locations, or markets for your innovation? If so, where and why?
I am targeting Kampala where a majority of educated people reside alongside towns like Jinja, Mbarara, Gulu, Lira , Soroti and Masaka.I am also targeting international community available on internet to order for my book from Amazon.com. This target population understands English as a primary language of my book and workshops. This target group also has disposable income for the revenue that i need to enable us to fund expansion of the delivery of our product and services to the rural populations. This target population is mobile and influential to open up in roads into the wider society.
What type of operating environment and internal organizational factors make your innovation successful?
Availability of affordable information technology services has boosted my research, publication, interactions and marketing of my book. I undertake most of my lobbying activities through the internet. Universal access to education in Uganda has brought a large segment of the population within reach of my innovation. I have been self employed person and have been able to work for long without pay. I exercise a high level of fiscal discipline that has enabled be to come far by foregoing most of the niceties of life enjoyed by my fellow youth. The little money that I get from friends and family is what has supported my medical/science research program (data collection, data analysis and report/book writing). I have been able to self publish with Amazon.com which did not require much money.
Please elaborate on any needs or offers you have mentioned above and/or suggest categories of support that aren't specified within the list
I need investments in order to raise awareness and profile of my health innovation in the media and gain recognition for my book around the world. I also need ideas, pro bono help and networking to increase awareness about by my initiative. I am also interested in offering investments, networking, pro-bono help, mentorship, my research and innovation experiences to other initiatives.
