BEcause of volunteerism in health we were able to reduce incidence on maternal health and child illnesses which is part of the MD goal of the United Nations especially in conflict areas like us . Work is more on volunteerism

Select the stage that best applies to your solution

Scaling (the next step will be growing impact on a regional or even global scale)

How long have you been in operation?

Operating for 1‐5 years

Which of the following best describes the barrier(s) your innovation addresses? Choose up to two

Access, Quality.

The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

Problem on access to health especially in conflict areas where health is rarely being reached out by communities in far flung areas. Problems they have are Maternal Health Care and Integrated Management of Children"s Illnesses. In experience we have the formation of every community with health action teams (volunteers have reduce the cases of MHC and IMCI). There are so many challenges that needs to be met like cultural sensitivity, volunteerism work within the barangay, capacity building that has been conducted to these volunteerism has been a big help. BUt expanding the program will be involved the family now even one member of the family will be trained to improve the health condition of the family through early prevention and initial health care tips for the family sustaining health.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

For the family to be also involved in health care because community volunteers can come and go but if a member of the family has undergone sessions on health tips and prevention, the government will have less worrying reaching far flung areas to improve health care. Capacity Building and practice on Maternal health care and Integrated Management of childlren illnesses can help the family avoid deteriorating practices on health. The only support we need to give them is first aid kits that can help them in improving health care like, portable BP apparatus, first aid kit and IEC materials like health care etc. This is more practical than providing doctors and nurses in the community which in case government cannot provide health teams especially in areas where there is conflict. But this program will also be back up by local officials in the community so there is also a need to established good networking with them . So that organizing a family health care teams in the community is ok.

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

the FAMILY HEALTH CARE ACTION TEAMS promotes volunteerism with the government having big expenses for health system in as much as this is a community based health approach and can reach even in the most far flung areas that are always been affected for poor access to health.

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

The Local health unit teams of the government other NGO. Municipal health unit and provincial healht office is bureaucratic in nature while us as an NGO always looks for actions and quality access to health by communities and immediate response to health problems in the community with less expenditures because we work for volunteerism,

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world.

US Aid assistance in the Phiilippines who have been working for this project has seen and recommended as one of the best practices in health care system we can send profiles and development framework of what happened in the past and why its working in the community now. This will help a lot for communities who have poor access to health system. Because is it based on building an institution for volunteerism with less cost and can be sustained because the program is being owned by the community. IN communities where we have been working there were lots of stories that can be heard why it is working. Less maternal incidence and illnesses of the children, thats why in our NGO we already have stopped our direct assistance for medical services because it has improved a lot when CHAT was introduced in the community, As an expansion it is suggested in the proposal that the family is now to be tapped directly for capacity building on health matters like MHC and IMCI.

Please describe the goal of your initiative; outline what you are trying to achieve

Improving Maternal Health Care and Integrated Management of Children's Illnesses and at the same time access of poor families in the far flung areas to health services.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Accessed to improved health care services to 3,200 poor families in far flung areas especially on Maternal Health Care and Integrated Management of Children's Illnesses and lower incidence by about 30% of these two health care program.

What is your projected impact over the next five years?

Expanding the program now not only to community volunteers but direct to families. Projected impact then is to made available to another 5,000 families in other villages in Basilan the Maternal Health Care and Integrated Management of Children Illnesses through volunteerism.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

Barrier might be sourcing additional funds to continue the program and the second one is the peace and order problem that might rise. To overcome this is to closely coordinate with local officials and the community itself in the mobilization of the community for the health care program. Planning will be a multi-stakeholders scheme that will start from the initiative of the community.
