Access, Cost.

The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

Today, Indonesia experience a vast increase in childhood cancer patients, with approximately 11.000 new case every year.

Most of the patients were from remote area with low level of economic. it makes them have very little information about cancer.
Even if they know it, many of them is negative information that -most of them- are incorrect and make the patients and their families did not pursue the medical treatment. Even though, they are commit to attempt the medical treatment, it can not be denied that the medical cost is very expensive. In this situation, many of patients become less motivated to cured completely, and many of them decide to stop their treatment.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

As the only childhood cancer survivor in Indonesia, we expect that our present will impacted to help cancer patients and their families through varies approach.
Our first solution is to provide balance and positive information about childhood cancer. We would like to convince Indonesian people that cancer could be cured, and the medical treatment has very little impact to the patients after the treatment phase.

Secondly, we would like to be part of their medical treatment through motivation and psychiatric assistance. We would like to be friends of the patients, as someone who really know how do they feel in cancer.

Thirdly, we assist patients and their families to access funding support for the medical treatment and we also still keep our companion after they finish the medical treatment to ensure they live in a healthy environment and habits.

to summarize, we have three solution, which is : Inform, assist and motivate.

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

We will explain the primarily activity that we usually done. Firstly, we actively introduce our self and inform our contact to the public through our website, social media, and newsletter. From it, the public know us, and will contact us if they have any question related to childhood cancer.

We usually connect them with our members that have the same cancer-type as them. After the patients or their families made contact with our members, we usually suggest them to go to the nearest hospital that can manage cancer treatment.

We usually accompany them to the hospital and introduce them with the appropriate doctor that in charge in the hospital. We always try hard to convince the patients and their family that chemotherapy is the best way to achieve complete cure in cancer. We also help them if they need financial support access, and we frequently update the latest information to the patients and their families.

Our information about cancer has made many people detect childhood cancer earlier and it makes them go to the hospital for more sophisticated medical check to make sure about the cancer-type.

Our approach in convincing them to pursue medical treatment has made them willing to attempt the chemotherapy treatment.

Our effort in motivating them has made them have big motivation to be cured completely and have full confident that there will be no major impact after the chemotherapy.

Our means in accompanying them when the treatment phase and after the treatment made them have new friend to share about their feeling

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

We have quite much peers that always support us in strengthening our activity and sustainability. Our main mentors is The Indonesian Children Oncology Foundation, the National Cancer Center, main provincial hospital, oncologist, and several international institution that have concern with cancer.

They have big influence to our today's success, usually we expand our access to support our activity through them, they also frequently provide us with the update information about childhood cancer, and they always refer to us when they meet new cancer patients.

To date, we actually do not have any competitors, we always try to cooperate with various background of institution, and our approach to them had made a mutual partnership.

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world.

We meet on early 2006, when one of our national hospital held an event on children cancer. On that day, we met for the first time, we actually never expect that we could meet other cancer survivor. In my experience, several patients that were being treatment with me on 1996 were pass away.

So, indeed, it is an amazing moment to met other survivor. After the event, we had several contact and we organize a ward visit to cancer patients. We spent our day by sharing with the patients and their families. We were very pleased with the respond of the patients, they need a success story of cancer, and we as cancer survivor are the success story for them.
