A new concept on clinical management of Dengue Fever

Location

Gampaha
Sri Lanka

Dr. Lakkumar due to his new way of treating Dengue fever has reduced the death in Sri Lanka by half while helping the Pakistani doctors this year to minimize dengue deaths in Punjab by applying Sri Lankan experience of treating dengue patients through a combination of his revised fluid management system (maintenance +5 liquid level within 48 hours under round the clock monitoring) and by establishing model dengue high dependency units in hospital in Sri Lanka and Punjab. LakKumar today stands as a led authority on dengue case management.

Reason:
Dr. LakKumar has developed the National Guidelines which was published by the Ministry of Health as a hand book for pediatricians on Dengue treatment and has established a hotline to advise the doctors around the country and in Pakistan to get his advice round the clock to save many lives infected by dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). He has challenged the widely believed and professionally articulated notion of DHF being unpredictable and deadly disease. Dr. LakKumar has contributed to saving at least 100-200 patients during past several months (both children & adults) through the establishment of his model units in hospitals and giving telephone advice (throughout the country and in Pakistan).
