I have always been obsessed with running a business since i was 12 but i knew it would be a business that has a social goal. I am currently working but also am undertaking a business studies course . I am determined to look back on my life and say we did that we helped. i understand business and what it takes to build and to sustain a healthy business. I am very strong when it comes to leadership but i have a creative side too . My personality is to go against the normal and that would show in my business but only if it is a benefit to the company. staff would be taught in about the companys message 'know your food' and i would want the employees to want to change the unhealhty habits of british people! and question why is it you look around and theres only ever mcdonalds, kfc, burger king, or greggs theres no healthy options ! I want to change this so the kids our next generation know whats in our food and what they are good for! . i would want to bring in local kids and show them how to cook and educate them on whats in there foods also i was thinking about the possibilties of setting up a free night time course for out of work an young parents adults to give them confidence and a better understanding of food. i have so many ideas!

The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

the problem? unhealthy options for breakfast / lunch and the complete lack of understanding of what is going inside our body. I want to solve the problems junk food and cheap foods are causing such as diabetes and obesity. lack of eco friendly food chains.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

the solution is funky fresh. The first stage of the solution would be a few street kitchens (mobile) in areas where there are no healthy alternatives this provides a start to providing a healthy option for lunch /breakfast. stage two educate the people to do this I would decorate the kitchens and menus with a list of vitamans/ numbers of calories/ fat content and what foods there in plus what there good for in the same way graze food company does. To combat the health risk of unhealthy foods we will promote the heath benefits of eating our food which and the menu will consist of healthy alternatives such as the breakfasts oats muesli healthy breakfast wraps we will have youghurts frozen youghurts salads buritos wraps rices noodles quinoa these foods have such healthy benefits ! there will be a range of health classes and a giveaway of any food surplus to requirements we will use eco friendly products i even want the mobile kitchens to run on eco friendly fuel

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

we will aim to make a difference by being as eco friendly as possible and will use only food that are biodegradable or are easy to recycle even the bags we will use would be biodegradable this is so much better for the enviroment. i want to source all the foods straight from the source giving farmers a fairtrade everything we use would consist of more eco benefits than other food chains. I think to educate every one is a huge order but if we give people the information then hopefully they can see the benefits behind eating healthy

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

i would consider subway and most fast food chains as the companys we will be competing with. i think we would be pretty unique and i cant see any one who would be anything like us but subway are the closest we would have the same sort of food presentation as them but would offer a completely different style of food and a larger choice of purely healthy tasty foods. these companys have loyal customers and it would take alot for them to convert but i feel theres a untapped market in the uk for healthy altenatives and feel we woul gain ahuge following in the larger citys

Social Impact

read more↑ hide↑ hide

What is the social impact you have had to date and how you measure it?

this is at the idea stage but i would measure ours by waste and consumer use

What barriers might hinder the success of your business? How do you plan to overcome them?

consumer mindsets have a huge impact on our business and whilst there are many dreaming of a company like this many would have to be educated and wowed by our knowledge and taste of healthy i would overcome this with a nation wide campaign and really push for the media to get behind us by causing a real stir

Sustainability

read more↑ hide↑ hide

How does your model address financial, social, and environmental sustainability?

the initial funding for this business will be in the form of savings and a bank loan with that the first mobile kitchen will be purchased then we will aquire a good spot in the city and start making money by selling the food we make a good but fair mark up will then we devlop strong realtionships with gyms and offices to provide even more revenue, there will also be a catering side of the company after a while i would like to expand to a large chain by obtaining backing from either investors or a bank loan the company will have a strong ethos but will turn a good profit and invest in the company whilst contributing to A vast range of charitys and after a few years i would hope to be in a position to start donating 10% of all profits to 5 different charitys a month. people will always need food but supplying great tasting healthy food is market that has not been filled we intened to become market leaders an strive to change the way people look at fast food!

How do you see social entrepreneurship contributing to the improvement of developing countries?

I feel social entrepreneurship is vital in developing countries they have provided essential help and solutions to major issues that blight these less fortunate countries I can think of of no better way to spend your working day than contributing towards developing countries and know that you have helped it. may not have changed the world but if i can convince one person to care and they can do the same who knows maybe one day we can change the world

What aspects of your stay in Uganda as part of the competition do you think you will find most challenging and rewarding?

I think for me the most challenging would not be the staying away or putting in some hard work but it would be seeing what these people have to do to survive that would hit me most, knowing that i can go home and watch tv whilst, these people have to work day and night just to survive without even moaning , I honestly believe this could change the way i look at the world and inspire me to change myself and others. so in a way i think it would also be the rewarding part of the trip the challange would be rewarding and the chance to meet people with a completely different way off life would be a opportunity i would not want to miss
