The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

1. The need for more lust for learning among people, both young and not so young.

2. Many teachers/enthusiastic individuals and companies/organisations, develop fantastic resources over and over again, year in and year out with no really structured "library" or "collection" where they can all add to, comment on and refine stuff that is really useful! It's difficult for a single individual to effectively discover these resources!

3. The fact that teachers and other staff at schools today find and choose/buy resources depending on what catalogues are sent out to them and what spam they receive. Great materials should spread much more easy, and bad material should get comments so that schools don't waste the precious little money they have to spend.

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

1. A website that lists all resources available for educational staff, parents, pupils/students. Those that sell resources pay a small fee to have their resources listed, and this money is used for developing the website and to finance projects 2, 3 and all others that follow....

2. A resource library. Project numbers 1 is about listing all resources available, this projects is about collecting, tagging, and sharing real resources in one place, khan-academy style, but in Swedish and where anyone (who is an "approved member") can share and add to and develop upon existing resources. Teachers can now easily see what other teachers are doing leave feedback and imagine the relief for new teachers as they can both bring fresh ideas whilst at the same time not have to do everything from scratch.

3. A Company with professionals who visit schools and help staff develop skills in using technology to create more efficient/inspirational/functional processes & materials.

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

Example 2: We visit schools and show them how to use a website when giving students test. So that the moment a student has finished a test the student inputs answers on one of 3-4 available iPads "clicks check" and then the test is checked instantly, the student recieves feedback on what parts he/she needs to improve on and where to find more resources/problems to solve, and the teachers automatically gets notified about what the student has completed, and where you can help that student out more. No more manual writing reports on students learning development status because "protocal demands it", it's all there. Instad the teacher can focus on really having a true conversation with the student and focus on the learning.

Example 2: An enthusiastic person who wishes to share insights from the industry that he/she is currently working in can do this throught video and audio clips and in this way reach schools who simply cannot afford nor have the time to visit all the places that students would like to go to and should know something about.

Example 3: We would conduct interviews with people in the industry, for example engineers, and ask them how and for what they really use "all that theoretical maths stuff" - to make it more real for students!

Example 4: We could inspire more teachers to vary their content and lessons as they wouldn't have to develop "all that new stuff" themselves!

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

Competitors are systems like "pingpong" which some schools currently use today. This if a plattform where teachers upload materials for their students.. but's it's very non-userfriendly (I've used it and am currently using it at work. It's also very limiting as the materials is only shared by that teacher manually to set groups of students in that school, none is public as far as I know, and schools pay lots of money to use these systems!
Khan academy is not really a competitor more of an inspirational potential partner. First of all cause it's in English and second - I have a different idea about how to structure the content.

Social Impact

What is the social impact you have had to date and how you measure it?

I just started up skolresurser.se last week.
The positive feedback and thankyous I've recieved I hope are a sign of the fact that it has made knowledge more accessible to more people. :)

What barriers might hinder the success of your business? How do you plan to overcome them?

Biggest barrier is to get that first base of 2-600 first resources into the database. I can't say people use the site until there are lot's of users, and it's difficult to promote it to new users when the content is slim.

To overcome this I offer anyone the opportunity to develop a passive income (affiliate/referral solution), if they help us spread our sales letter. For as long as the companies that they have referred to us stay as customers they get a fair share every year.

I will also keep filling it up with free content myself.

Sustainability

read more↑ hide↑ hide

How does your model address financial, social, and environmental sustainability?

Financial stability will come through the income from people who sell resources to pay a small fee to have their resources on skolresurser.se. We also offer a hotspot position that they can pay extra for.

New idea:
We could offer people to "buy wishingcoins" that they can use to "up" lessons that are on the wishingwell list. Anyone can add a wish for a resource (video/instructinon/demo etc.) and we could focus on completing 1-many each week, the ones that are on top of the list.

Social sustainability through the comment function (it's on my todo list) where staff can see other staff's comments on resources.

It also makes material much more transparent to parents.

Hopefully we'll be able to replace the unnecessary production and transportation of product catalogues that go out to so many schools every year.

Awareness & learning

How do you see social entrepreneurship contributing to the improvement of developing countries?

Thoughts that come to mind are about kiva.org - and TED.com, and I think it's great! I really don't have much but I did share $25 once, and have recently lent it out again, it's brilliant!

What aspects of your stay in Uganda as part of the competition do you think you will find most challenging and rewarding?

Rewarding: Hopefully a visit to a national park & meeting even more awesome world-citizens (read people!)

Challenging: Confronting my own prejudices that have developed over the years with reports in western media about violence in "African countries", even if it's not directly connected to Uganda.
