Innovation
What makes your idea unique?
The model isn't unique; however, the idea of using this approach to improve maternal as well as fetal health around the world is worth noting. Success would make such a positive impact on individuals, families, communities, countries, and the world.

Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
What impact have you had?
I was instrumental in helping to set-up a similar program locally.
Problem
It's addressing the lack of accessibility to quality health care, which impacts maternal health, and, as it relates to my project, fetal outcomes, health care expenses, and patient satisfaction.
Actions
Have successfully implemented a successful pilot project. The model works.
Results
Telemedicine can connect high-risk physician specialists with physicians or other providers who deliver babies in areas that are without such specialty care and often times in rural and underserved locations.
What will it take for your project to be successful over the next three years? Please address each year separately, if possible.
1: Need to set-up telemedicine monitors at the home-base and then the targeted distant location. This will enable the process to take place.
2: Then, it's a matter of tracking the outcomes for research and sharing purposes.
3: Process improvement and expansion.
What would prevent your project from being a success?
Nothing. Simply need the resources to get started.
How many people will your project serve annually?
What is the average monthly household income in your target community, in US Dollars?
Does your project seek to have an impact on public policy?
Yes

Essentially, my project requires the participation of maternal fetal medicine specialists and then the technology for telemedicine. That's it.
What are the three most important actions needed to grow your initiative or organization?
1. Need financial support for the technology. Approx $40,000.
2. Need some compensation for time/ effort for physicians. Approx $40,000.
3. That's it.
The Story
What was the defining moment that you led to this innovation?
While listening to a presentation on telestroke, I realized that we could use the same model to improve perinatal care, bettering both maternal and fetal outcomes locally, nationally and internationally.
