GlobeMedMISSION AND OVERVIEW-GlobeMed is a network of university students who partner with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. Through their involvement today, students commit to a life of leadership in global health and social justice. The GlobeMed Network currently includes 32 chapters at university campuses throughout the country and will expand to 46 chapters in Fall 2011. The Network is coordinated and supported by our National Office in Evanston, IL. The grassroots health organizations supported by our chapters span the world from Rwanda to Detroit. ECLACThe Experiences in Social Innovation project is developed by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation since 2004. It aims at identifying, analyzing and disseminating innovative social development initiatives that contribute to the advancement of the Millennium Development Goals. The Experiences in Social Innovation project will dedicate the year of 2011 to the analysis and dissemination of the 72 initiatives that conform the Bank of Experiences. They are social innovations with proven excellent results, cost-efficient and replicable. It is relevant that this information reach people and/or organizations that can put it to good use in order to improve the quality of life of people in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since its opening the Experiences in Social Innovation contest has received 4, 800 applications. Each one of them underwent a strict evaluation process that included a field visit for the semifinalists and the participation of the finalists in one of the annual Social Innovation Fairs, which were held in Santiago, Chile, Mexico City, Porto Alegre, Medellin and Guatemala City.

Paradigma XXIParadigma XXI- Alliance for Collaborative Advocacy in Health is a network of civil society organizations that began integrating in 2007 with the intention of working together for a health system focused on the people and their rights. The alliance was officially launched in April 2009 in Argentina. The Founding Group was formed by LALCEC, MACMA and Natalí Dafne Flexer Foundation (cancer), Fundación Huésped (HIV / AIDS), Asoc. Civil Síndrome de Sjögren Argentina (Sjogren Syndrome), Asoc. Civil Creciendo (disorders of growth stunting ) Concebir (infertility), CUIDAR (diabetes), Asoc. Civil Prader Willi Argentina (Prader Willi) and Fundación Cambio Democrático (participation and dialogue, conflict management and collaborative advocacy). Paradigma XXI is supported by over four hundred people and organizations who signed, adhering to their proposal and who integrate a collaborative working platform such as the Argentina Federation of Nursing, the Health Observatory, University of Buenos Aires, Pfizer Laboratories and the Center for Social Innovation at the University of San Andrés. Paradigma XXI is facilitated by Mercedes Jones from University of San Andrés and Fundación Cambio Democrático.

CHMIThe Center for Health Market Innovations (CHMI) is a global information resource on programs that engage private health care providers to improve health and financial protection for the poor. CHMI identifies, analyzes and connects people running Health Market Innovations. Health Market Innovations are programs and policies—implemented by governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), social entrepreneurs or private companies. These programs and policies harness or improve transactions that occur in the health care marketplace to promote better health and financial protection for the poor. CHMI works through a network of partner organizations in 16 countries where there are large numbers of private health care providers.

Echoing GreenEchoing Green, inspires, invests in, and mobilizes next generation talent to deliver bold solutions for social change. Since inception we have invested in nearly 500 social entrepreneurs who work to solve deeply-rooted problems in the world through their innovative ideas. Among the organizations we helped launch include Teach For America, City Year, Genocide Intervention Network, The SEED School, Global Fund for Children and hundreds of others. We also work to build a robust ecosystem of changemaking by supporting young people to select careers in social change; working with donors to approach their philanthropy in an engaged manner; and providing data that builds our field.

NAMINAMI INDIA, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of those afflicted by Mental Illness in India. NAMI INDIA started as website in 2001 and with the power of technology reaches out to families and persons afflicted by Mental Illnesses. It is a movement with support groups in various parts of the country, mostly urban centres. The main focus of NAMI INDIA has been online and phone counselling followed by offline meetings, home visits and conduct of support group programs at various locations. We have also focused a lot on reducing stigma by creating awareness.

ETIC (Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative CommunityETIC (Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Community), established in 1997, has been working to encourage “entrepreneurial leadership” for social innovation. Since 2001, ETIC has focused on young social entrepreneurship which makes a new solution of social problem by business skills and personal compassion. ETIC’s mission is contributed to improve a competence of fostering human resources, approaching with creating the structure of development of next generation leader in cooperation with community or higher education institution, utilizing the acquired know-how through our proprietary programs. ETIC is supporting young people who are willing to be ready to start social business. “NEC-ETIC Incubation Program for Social Entrepreneur” is helping young people to start their social businesses. Over 2000 students with entrepreneurial orientation/professional have joined the long-term internship program. In response to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March 2011, ETIC identifies and provides young non-profit leaders to engage in various projects in disaster relief and rebuilding.

Narada FoundationNarada Foundation is dedicated to initiating and supporting programs that develop the infrastructure of the philanthropic industry, providing financial support to strategic programs involving supporting organizations, leading organizations, and program that cultivate excellent charity talents, and funding specific fields programs such as education of migrant children and disaster relief. In addition, Narada Foundation shall conduct strategic and policy researches to guide the above-mentioned pillar programs. Narada Foundation’s mission is “Foster Civil Society” and they are focusing on China’s social problems in transition, making grants for excellent philanthropic programs conducted by non-profit organizations so as to foster social innovation and help build a harmonious society. Narada Foundation set our vision as “Every Heart Shall Carry Hope”, means that when there is hope within us all, then our society holds a promising future.

CEDAPSCEDAPS – Center for Health Promotion ( www.cedaps.org.br ) – is working primarily in Rio de Janeiro and through partnerships in several other Brazilian states. CEDAPS started implementing an innovative model of Comprehensive Primary Care in favelas (slums). Working with other groups with similar programs, contributed to make it a public policy in 1994, under the name of Family Health Program. 16 years later, it is the most important public health initiative in Brazil, significantly improving the health and lives of almost 120 million Brazilians. In 1995 the organization started working directly with community grassroots organizations. In 2000 Cedaps created the "Network of Healthy Communities", today with 150 favelas (slums) in the state of Rio covering more than 1 million people in population, where we support, articulate and capacitate local groups to improve health and quality of life. Cedaps uses the Social Technology denominated “Shared Construction of Solutions in Health” (Construção Compartilhada de Soluções em Saúde), derived from the Problem Solving for Better Health® program of the Dreyfus Health Foundation. More than half million people were directly and indirectly benefited by more than 1,200 PSBH projects.

Doutores da AlegriaDoutores da Alegria (The Doctors of Joy) is a nonprofit organization that has made more than 800 thousand visits to hospitalized children in the cities of São Paulo, Recife and Belo Horizonte and has also developed a program to train hospital teams in Rio de Janeiro. Our mission is to promote joy as an enabling factor for healthyrelationships through professional clowns performing for hospitalized children, their parents and health professionals – always sharing this quality performance with society through the production of artistic knowledge, training and creations. |
