21 Solar Suitcases Successfully Installed!

In December, 2011, I led a team of Safe Mothers, Safe Babies personnel, working with project partner WE CARE Solar, to install 21 WE CARE Solar Suitcases for the Light the Night project, placed all over the country in a total of 16 health centers and 3 hospitals (2 hospitals received 2 units). They had an immediate impact, allowing providers to keep providing life-saving services even when the power goes off--which is now happening systematically every other day. In one case, a premature delivery occurred 5 minutes after my team finished the installation. I worked with midwife Esther Madudu to resuscitate the 12-week-premature baby girl, while her young mother's post-partum hemorrhage was managed by the only other health care provider (a nurse). Both mother and baby lived! What an impact Light the Night can have as we scale up!!!!
