The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?
As India marches towards its unprecedented “development” with Indira Nooyi’s and Chandana Kocchar’s, 43% girl-children drop out from primary school, 23% girls get married before 18 years. The problem is truly appalling. The need is to eradicate ingrained issues like illiteracy, substance abuse, low esteem and lack of opportunities from the bottom of the pyramid. ROTE learning defeats the purpose of education because it is fails to teach basic values of empathy, humanity, principles and logic in children. It also leads to lack of interest in studies. Different forms of abuse, sexual, physical, social and mental, stem from social dogmas and fanatical views about lifestyles, behavioral expectations, gender bias etc. These need to be overcomed through CREATIVITY and EMPATHY.
The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!
We believe in educating through CREATIVITY + SENSITIVITY and to making learning engaging and fun. We use ART & ICT as prime means to foster change within school curricula.
The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities
Soni is a student at Protsahan. She was a rag pickers daughter. Initially hesitant to join school, was convinced through repeated encouragement to join Protsahan where she started off with learning Madhubani painting. She loved creative bits of educations that it made her coming back to our centre and slowly started developing interest in studies. Her performance has been fantastic and she got promoted into a government school bringing laurels to her family. She now wants to be a teacher. Her father proud and inspired, gave up rag picking and started own mini enterprise in the slum now. What started with creative education turned into a new life for an entire family. Soni is just one of our success stories.
Our primary activities include : Encouraging children to try out new activities like photography, painting, dancing and music to get engaged in being inspired for a better future. Once, they are motivated and interested in coming back to the center, the numbers and theories follow. Once, their initial nurturing begins at Protsahan,we get them admitted to government schools for further education. We work with their families to foster holistic community development and not just at the level of the child itself. Since we work with at risk street children facing sexual and drug abuse and trafficking, the importance of CREATIVITY and EMPATHY become extremely crucial in our approach.
The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?
There are other organizations in the market who are working for similar causes. Teach for India etc. are some of our peers. We believe all of us are together striving to achieve the common goal of a better world through our own means and solutions. We support and encourage our peers in our capacity to ensure the cause stays alive.
Our unique model of imparting education through ART AND CREATIVE EMPATHY is what differentiates us from others. We are using innovation to bring out new methods and devising newer designs everyday to make the world a better place. The results of art to improve lives has already started showing.
Others working for similar causes only help us enhance our performance. The cause is bigger than competition and by the end of the day, we're using it for greater good.

Social Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
What has been the impact of your solution to date?
We have mobilized more than 12,000 people across the globe for the cause we stand for. Number of direct beneficiaries is about 800 [children and women] in our 19th month of existence itself. We are creatively educating girls rescued from sexual abuse and boys into drug abuse through art and technology. We understand and have seen at our grass root initiatives how utterly crucial 'sensitivity' is for at-risk children espcially. Based on this we have also started structuring our "CREATIVITY and EMPATHY" led curriculum exclusively for street children and children in government schools.
What is your projected impact over the next 1-3 years?
Protsahan is currently working with 300 children on an everyday basis. But we wish to scale up our approach to government schools where the impact will be so much more and needed. We wish to not just reach by handing over a book or one random training session but holistically TRANSFORM lives of 10,000 children from streets and government schools in the next 3 years.
Winning entries present a strong plan for how they will achieve and track growth. Identify your six-month milestone for growing your impact
A six month milestone will involve primarily getting involved at the level of government schools, more collaborations & outreach
Identify three major tasks you will have to complete to reach your six-month milestone
Task 1
Collaborations for corporate and organizational funding
Task 2
Reaching out to Government Schools [for max impact]
Task 3
Expanding Volunteer Network

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world [125 words]
It all started in 2010 when I [23 yrs that time] visited one of the urban slums in Delhi as a part of my corporate film shoot. I met a woman with six young daughters and heavily pregnant with the seventh child, who she was ready to strangle, if it was a girl again. She also sent her eight year old girl to a red light district so she could feed the rest of her five children. This incident shocked my existence. I quit my cushiony corporate job a few weeks later and started creatively educating seven little girls from slums who were being sexually/domestically abused. Gradually youngsters across the country started supporting me and Protsahan was born. Today [after 19-20 months], we have mobilized > 12,000 young Indians living across borders for the cause that Protsahan stands for. We started with one room creative arts school in Delhi. We have touched the lives of over 200 children directly from streets & slums who were subjected to sexual abuse and drug abuse through creative education.

Tell us about your partnerships
Initially it was all bootstrapping. I saved up some pennies from my salary [till i was working; for those girls because it killed me to see them like that]. Later when I quit my job to structure Protsahan as a big social impact organization, I started venturing out. From 7 girls to a few hundred children, Ive gathered my learnings well. Now from few hundreds to thousands I need collaborations.Currently we have collaborated with the CSR arm of PVR Cinemas [Childscapes Project]. Talks are on with several government bodies as well [Details on request.]
What type of team (staff, volunteers, etc.) will ensure that you achieve the growth milestones identified in the Social Impact section? [75 words]
Since it is a start up, we are currently looking for skilled people who have the knack of being committed multi-taskers. We dont want one person with one excellent skill but someone excellent in execution of variable skills. Our team structure at any location comprises changemakers from within the community in addition to a task force of carefully chosen fellows [volunteers for specified number of months].
Please elaborate on any needs or offers you have mentioned above and/or suggest categories of support that aren't specified within the list
Today, we have mobilized more than 12,000 young Indians living across borders for the cause that Protsahan stands for. Along with working with STREET CHILDREN [Primary activity], and ARTISANS we have started programs for marginalized slum women where we train them as design micro-entrepreneurs into making quality handicrafts, sanitary napkins etc.[Secondary activity, also helps us self sustain]
