The Need: What problem are you trying to solve?

Have you ever stopped to think how we live in a society made of pretty speeches but individualistic attitudes? Have you ever stopped to think that we live in a connected world but with fragile human bonds? Have you ever noticed that the opportunities are not democratic, not everyone has access to them? And what about education? Have you ever stopped to think how education is weakened & devalued the school environment? These problems are connected to the attitudes of individuals. We seek to train young people that question the world around them, & are able to transform their realities through micro-revolutions, transform the culture of the viewers to a culture of protagonists. Develop opportunities & challenges so they can use the school as a place to build a fairer society, & a better futu

The Solution: What is your solution? Be specific!

Centers of youth citizenship in public schools reinforcing the four pillars of education in promoting civic engagement:
1) Learn to Be: develop the individual & their emotions to promote self-care, self-esteem, self-awareness, & emotional balance.
2) Learn to Know: open a universe of possibilities to develop curiosity, vision, cooperation, participation, harmony & interaction.
3) Learn to Live Together: promote diversity, respect & understanding of each other in developing political participation, cooperation, empathy, harmony, communication.
4) Learn to Act: develop skills such as initiative, leadership, entrepreneurship, discipline, responsibility for the exercise of full citizenship & problem solving skills are encouraged by the collective. These can be achieved through workshops (two times per week) & challenges that occur during the year. In those environments learning is more effective, young people take responsibility to multiply in their workshops. For more informa

The Model: Walk us through a specific example of how your solution makes a difference; include your primary activities

Organized into groups of five students representatives per school, young people aged 13 to 18 can participate, 2 times per week in the trainings of Academia Educar. These training workshops are prepared by Academia Educar. These workshops are prepared by juvenile students (young people who participated in the project in previous years and stood out). The themes of these workshops seek to develop leadership skills grounded in the pillars of education, for example by facilitating communication, promoting values, politics, citizenship, entrepreneurship, sexual education. To put into practice the concepts learned, participate in challenges during the year Oasis Educar (methodology developed by Instituto Elos) adapted for the youth to recognize the beauty of the local community and identify a collective dream to build with the community.
Project in the School: Propose a project to improve the school and put it the principles in practice. A negotiation with teachers, students and mobilization of resources in the two challenges is the responsibility of the participating youth. Weathervane of Letters: activities to stimulate reading and writing in order to stimulate curiosity and build critical thinking. Station experiences: experiences in other social projects for the promotion of volunteerism and solidarity as well as experience other realities. Getting to know the world, experience other cultures through "immersive research" and present them taking food, dances, costumes and a native of the country studied.
Journalism Agency: record & share activities with school and family

The Marketplace: Who are your peers and competitors? Identify others also working to address the needs you are and what differentiates you from them. What challenges could these players pose to your success or growth?

Our peers and projects that inspire / teach: Antonio Carlos Gomes da Costa – leadership concepts; Bairro Escola (family responsibility / community / school), Oasis-Instituto Elos (mobilization for the realization of collective dreams), Escola da Ponte (protagonism and ownership of the school space), JCC Jovens Construindo Cidadania - Military Police (seeks to improve the school environment), Instituto Elos - methodology adapted to the Oasis project.
We do not know of competitors who carry out similar or complementary actions. The competition we face is contextual (marginalization, drug abuse, the immediate financial need vs. study, school drop-out rates).

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

The project began as an initiative of the company that today has a partnership with the municipal and state education board. More than 2500 people were benefited from the project since its inception. Since 2006, the methodology of multiplication in schools indirectly served an audience of about 1,600 students who receive the capabilities of our multipliers. Annually, there are 20 schools involved in the project.

What is your projected impact over the next 1-3 years?

Closer ties with the adult responsible for the project in the school, and organize young participants to mobilize green teams that will allow the indirect impact to increase. We are considering the possibility of transforming our material into a methodology to be shared with the project re-publishers, allowing them to apply the techniques in their communities, we will have a more positive outcome.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

The relationship with school management is essential. When there is a commitment, applying the methodology for the multiplication of schools does not make much success. Thus, we propose to develop activities throughout the year to strengthen ties and to approach those responsible for the project in each school. Regarding the proliferation of technology, we are formatting the material, and right now the challenge is to democratize content. However, our challenge is also to share content and follow-up with the uses of this material. The objective is to create a tool of for inspiration not formation.

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world [125 words]

The Pascoal family often made donations to various institutions, but decided in 1989 to channel investments in the promotion of Education in Citizenship. Thus it was born the Fundação Educar DPaschoal. By believing that every citizen is an agent of transformation, the idea of the program Academia Educar has always sought to awaken in young people the importance of social participation and protagonism. At first, with a limited capacity of a building the organization; but then, the initiative came out of limits of the building and has begun to reach a broader public through a partnership with schools. Our dedication and investment, to develop leaders began to allow the appreciation of the school environment and the perception of youth as a social worker may, during school life, exercise citizenship and make the school environment transformation. Our search is able to go beyond the finding of solutions; it awakens youth leaders so that they change their realities and find collective solut

Tell us about your partnerships

Allow synergy with partners to explore new worlds, new solutions and possibilities for activities that we have developed such as dynamic workshops. Moreover, it is important to engage others (citizens or businesses) in the process of stimulation and recovery of citizenship education. These partnerships end up reducing the need for financial support and in some situations are also enablers of the project.

What type of team (staff, volunteers, etc.) will ensure that you achieve the growth milestones identified in the Social Impact section? [75 words]

For part of the strategic and conceptual Academia Educar has an educator who leads the process to stimulate the role of young people (but they do not inspire them to act), and to bridge the gap with schools understand their demands and expectations. To share methodologies, the proposed virtual platform will be developed with the team that develops the Web DPaschoal seeking to build a space accessible and functional.

Please elaborate on any needs or offers you have mentioned above and/or suggest categories of support that aren't specified within the list

The possibilities could be built together as possible requests from other partners. If we manage to do that, our practices will then be aligned. We will then be able to nominate talented students, use our networks for the dissemination of projects and ideas, and propose joint solutions. Finally, we will be able to fulfill the role of a collaborative network building collective constructs.
