Describe Your Idea
Innovation
What is your idea? What makes it innovative? Why is it important?
Groopi.es tells users which of their friends (or friends of friends) are using a particular product, service or brand of interest, and facilitates communication between them.
groopi.es enables honest, personal advice users can trust from people they trust. It means bene?tting from the opinions of your best biking buddy, your DIY-happy father-in-law or your favorite tech-geek’s tech-geek.
The site’s primary feature is a search for product advice that produces a list of friends who are available to give advice via the most suitable communications channel.
It is the long-due overhaul of such services as consumer reports and epinions.com, set in a trusted community like linkedin, powered by quick, engaging communication a la twitter.
Today’s existing product recommendation sites offer random product tips and some form of static text reviews by anonymous users (e.g. Epinions, StyleFeeder, thisnext, kaboodle or amazon), resulting in unspecific, un-targeted, contradictory advice, and frustrated consumers who expect more personalized information. There is no dedicated online destination that facilitates reliable advice from people who actually know and trust each other.
Groopi.es fills the market gap of trusted online product advice through a social network and will be rapidly expanded into relevant digital platforms, including mobile.
It is innovative because it adds a new dimension to online socializing through its focus on shared product tastes and opinions, on passion topics such as “Who else loves (or hates) product X?”.
It is innovative because it adds a new dimension to user generated product reviews by replacing the unreliability and lack of personalization of anonymous reviews with the encouraging knowledge of your friends.
Groopi.es revenue model includes online advertising, sales commission for purchases initiated on the site as well as fees for customer insight reports and consulting engagements.
Impact
What will be the impact of your idea?
Groopi.es will revolutionize online product recommendations and social networking by enabling direct dialogue and ambient information updates within a network of trusted friends, producing valuable information for users and valuable insights for marketers.
People will make better and happier purchase decisions, because they can rely on their friends’ moral support, and they will tie more lasting relationships, because they met based on one of the most reliable match-makers, common product preferences and dislikes.
Groopi.es will also set new standards for targeted marketing: Groopi.es will be a unique advertising destination where users can be served marketing communications that are specifically targeted at their interests and that can provide tangible value to them rather than interfere with their user experience.

Sustainability
How much will it cost to launch your idea?
The site launch is planned in four stages, adding additional features and marketing initiatives with every stage.
Development and PR activities for the initial launch of an alpha version, which is planned for spring 2009, will cost about $20,000. The initial launch will include the implementation of an advertising serve system, as well as the integration of existing social network user profiles, building the foundation for quick user growth and revenue generation to achieve financial sustainability.
