Arts & culture

Here's a story about how members of the Changemakers community are promoting arts and culture in Brazil:

Dora Andrade has created a program (EDISCA) that combines dance training with other learning opportunities and support services for girls in economically and culturally deprived communities on the outskirts of Fortaleza, Brazil. The program is making important contributions to the girls' social development and is equipping them with the confidence that will enable them to enter adulthood with a positive outlook and develop productive lives.

Dear All,

We know that there are endangered cultures around the world. One of such culture is the coloful culture of the Kalash communities in northern Pakistan. This culture is really threatened in recent years in particular due to the rise religious extremism and the threat of terrorism. We have been making efforts to give the valuable Kalash communities by one way or the other. In the following lines I am sharing with you some practical story where the Kalash cultural group has been involved in highlighting the aspects of their culture.

Please visit the following website link to watch an interview of the Kalash cultural group in one of Pakistan's famous TV channels:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4GPNISsuXM

The member of the groups are:

1) Fatima
2) Mir Azam
3) Balawoosht
4) Faizi Khan
5) Kirn
6) Tufan Gul
7) Shams Uddin

Those shown in the interview are:
1) Fatima
2) Shams Uddin
3) Mir Azam

Mr Mir Azam, the known pature flutists in the Kalash valleys, is playing flute, the melody of which directly links one's soul to nature!

The objective of these activities is:

1) To highlight the colouful but threatened culture of the Kalash communities
2) To make the culture a source of income for the Kalash communities so that they will feel the importance of the culture, which in turn, bolster our determination to protect it.

Hope you will enjoy it.

Thanks!
