Vocational training for orphans and children in Kenya to learn to build furniture and establish new and needed market for which these items can be sold and with this training these children can become self-suffiecient. A very inspired idea and a VERY worthy cause!

Reason:
A very inspired idea and very worthy cause. It seems that with just a little start up money it will take off and grow on it's own. The children being trained will not only be building furniture, but will be building a future. The organization seems to be well-organized and just needs a financial "kick-start".

I have visited this orphanage and one of the most pressing issues is that of preparing young adults with skills to provide personal financial security so they can move out of the orphanage and become a  contributing member of society. Vocational training seems to be the most logical tool to an independent life in Kenya, as even university graduates are unable to find work and often leave the country, taking their talents with them.  Even in America's current economic downturn,  those people who have the ability to work with their hands are often still employeed,  while in many cases others with  a high school or university diploma are finding themselves out of work.

Literally hundreds of small orphans come daily to Hope for Children Centre,  begging to be admitted, and can only take residence by the departure of one of the current residents.  It is pathetic to see them peering through the fence, realizing that there is no place or safety net  for them.  By the same token, the older children cannot be sent away until they are able to provide for themselves.  It does little good to save orphans only to turn them out to a life of poverty and suffering when they reach adulthood.   By building the life of a young adult, one is also giving life to a small orphan, and a badly needed economic boost to the  area around Homa Bay.
