What will be the impact of your idea?
The Stractor concept starts with a simple idea. Track your position throughout the day with your GPS-supported mobile device (including iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc.), and then analyze your position data over time. There are sites such as mapmyrun.com that can plot your jogging route on a map, but such a website does not exist for general purpose analysis. What if you want to look at patterns over a long period of time, or collect your GPS data from several devices in one place? This is the first problem Stractor aims to solve - allowing you to answer questions like "How much driving did I do last month compared to the average college student?" or "Where was I on March 5, 2009?" or "When have I biked more than 20 miles in a day?". Later, modules can be built to collect and correlate information about other habits.
Who will help you develop your idea? Why are you the one to make this happen?
Mentors within the University of Miami college of Business, fellow software engineering students, and recruits from the Miami web development community.
I can make this happen because I have a vision for how useful Stractor could be, laying the foundation for hundreds of unforseen applications. I can virtually bootstrap the project myself because I have an interdisciplinary background in design, web development, and software engineering.
How much will it cost to launch your idea? (This can be an estimate)
An initial launch will involve about 4 months of labor from a core team of 2 or 3 people; a total development support cost of about $50,000. This site will support around 10,000 users. The project will scale from there and require more funding based on growth of the userbase.
