What will be the impact of your idea?

This dynamic multimedia outreach and educational project will be viewed by municipalities, social entrepreneurs, cultural organizations and institutes of learning across America to inspire the adoption of Circle of Care’s community design model and civic engagement. This inspiring project will include video footage of the program in action as the backdrop for Circle of Care Founder/Director Joan Raderman singing with choir to inspire civic engagement. The initial reaction of people hearing the song is that it could easily become the National Anthem for Civic Engagement, sending a powerful and creatively inspired message to share with all of “the power of one” and what is possible through community partnership to build thriving communities where we all live and age well.

Who will help you develop your idea? Why are you the one to make this happen?

The music has been composed by Joan Raderman, Circle of Care founder. The video footage will be done by a Boulder-based documentary filmmaker, with additional musical support by award-winning music director and composer, Bill Douglas. As Circle of Care Founder/Community Developer and an Ashoka Affiliate Fellow, Joan Raderman is passionate about building livable communities for older adults, people with disabilities, and in turn improving the lives of people of all ages. She is dedicated to creating communities where all people grow, live, thrive and age well with barrier free access to life enhancing resources that give meaning and purpose regardless of economic, mobility, physical or cognitive challenges. Joan is a social entrepreneur and a singer/songwriter who envisions the power of music and media to inspire, motivate, open hearts and break down barriers and inspire change.

How much will it cost to launch your idea? (This can be an estimate)

$23,500

As a longtime volunteer for Circle of Care Project, I can personally speak to the powerful impact this organization has made. From the members to the volunteers to the donors, I've witnessed the unique connection that occurs through the arts which is healing and fun. Through this simple connection of being in the presence of seniors, the experience of what it means to age and live in community outwardly becomes a tangible, transformative experience for a volunteer and for a donor. This program is needed to bring awareness and joy to the lives of people of any age. Winning this challenge would enable Circle of Care Project to make a larger impact that it needs to to reach more lives beyond Boulder Colorado. I'm glad for the opportunity to share my vote for Circle of Care!

Having seen the brilliant ideas that effortlessly come from Circle of Care's creative founder Joan Raderman, I'd highly support her non-profit organization receiving funds to make a music video about the Circle of Care project in Boulder, Colorado. This movie would be inspiring, the kind you get all teary watching.

Plus a movie put to music with real elders and the caring people who take them to concerts, baseball games, talks, etc. would show other cities practical ideas and creative community-based solutions that Joan weaves together combining arts and educational opportunities, mobility, and free transportation and donated tickets for people who would otherwise be at home and isolated.

Circle of Care is an inspiring successful project that deserves widespread recognition and national replication.

I have personally experienced the deep value Circle of Care provides and wish that it was in place all over the country. My in-laws participated in the first Senior Idol contest Joan Raderman and Circle of Care held and my father-in-law, a classic style singer, won first place - it changed his life and it was extraordinary to witness how the basic act of connection, through community, arts and creativity, had such a powerful impact on people of all ages.

This project would deliver the powerful message of Circle of Care's very special mission to so many and provides a real solution for how we can age well in this country, with joy, connection and meaning.

Fabulous Joan Raderman brought her love of the arts to seniors in Boulder, CO.

A syllabus for changing isolation through innovation.

Join her quest in taking this wonderful concept to a national level in short film.

It would be great to view this before a movie, on local news stations, attached in distribution or weblink in with Chamber of Commerce or other media forms.

Aloha Joan. i'm harmonizing with the circle of friends that have commented on your entry. i'd love for you to share a small personal note on what makes a changemaker from the inside. Your passion is evident yet there's always another way to view the center of a 'circle', especially if that center is centered on others.

Our view of the circle of life on planet earth, sees everything changing & we're all very important as innovators of this new direction with/for all humanity through media. Simply by entering we are collectively focusing on providing MEdia with a new door to move through. We are a team; we'll call us for the sake of the moment... TheMediaMakers. We've given the following question to all The [240+] MediaMakers, thus far & hope to bring the world along for our new orbit.

Please explain why your idea/project, is suited/perfect to using... 'media' ...to bring about A BETTER "WORLD"...the entire planet...?

Thanks4now ~ 2 can play but 3 can learn a new perspective, immediately, always, all ways & forever!,

Peace~!,

Hello A.B.,

Aging is universal, the arts are universal and media is universal.

A short on Circle of Care would bring joy to all concerned- which is everyone. Joy and inclusion over isolation and sadness works from Paris to Los Angeles, Boise, Idaho to Oslo, Norway.

Seniors are also school teachers, law makers, scientists, business people, voters, veterans and fellow humanitarians. Bring them back into the community, enjoy the grace of the their wisdom and the bounty of this demographic in local, national and global solutions.

Joy and camaraderie are catalysts for good.

Circle of Care~ a beautiful concept in social change.

Peace abound,
Corey

a.b. Thank you for your comment. I hope my answer offers some insight. I believe that within everyone one of us lies a Changemaker, longing, seeking or hoping to be delivered to our passion. I believe that we need to midwife this for each other,to reach our full potential. I am deeply honored to be a part of this process and Changemakers vision. For those who have been delivered, it is not an easy road. They are most likely relentlessly and endlessly striving to influence something that truly breaks thier heart. Something that so deeply impacted them that their lives were changed forever. That if there were only one thing they could change before they die, this would be it. In my case at the age of 9 my parents decided to look into purchasing a nursing home. They took my sister and I with them to view. It was what might be referred to as an old age home and this one was the worst of the worst, a broken down big old house that housed about 15 elders. When I entered I was overcome by the stench. As we toured the rooms I remember the faces of broken human being, obvious neglect and deep sadness. I was shocked. My only experience with older adults was with my own grandparents. I was raised by my grandmother for the first years of my life. A beautiful loving Hungarian woman, Giselle, Grandma Gizzy. She provided me with endless love, hugs and amazing food. Until that day in the nursing home I believed all grandmas were living like her. That moment set the stage for a lifetime of waiting for my opportunity to make a difference to take a step out of my comfort zone.
Circle of Care was born out of a longing to change this and the culture of aging for everyone. It is a humanitarian project to keep older adults connected to community resources, people and things that are life enhancing regardless of thier econmics, mobility, phyiscal or cognitive challanges. No one should be placed under house arrest due to age related disabilities or ecomonic challanges. Circle of Care is a free community access development project. It provides older adults and the volunteers who help us mobilitze them with complimentary access to the finast arts and cultural events, lifelong learning, and social/civic engagement. It provides people of all ages with access for volunteering with us while it also solve a social challage. This is an issue that will impact every single one of us, you, your friends, neighbors, families and future generations. What we have accepted in our past must change. We hope to make that change with a film to show our community model and educate others on what we are doing with over 1200 older adults and a team of dedicated volunteers of all ages. I believe if we can show it and educate other cities on how to create inclusive, livable communities for older adults inturn people of all ages, we are changing the world one city at a time. There are so many important issues being presented and all deserve media attention. It would be great to have everyones story told.
Through my work with Circle of Care I realized that everyone of us has the capacity to help somebody, no matter what. The song I have written that speaks to this I hope would inspire more people to take a stand.

"IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE EVERYONE'S STORY TOLD" - Joan Raderman [caps- a.]. We agree wholeheartedly! Thus, imaginnedia, would love to pass through & interview your Circle of Care & friends in the movie making process. Age & Wisdom are EXTREMELY imporatant factors of a growing community, globally & locally. Globalocally, we would like to share the deepest stories, songs & visual arts of creators whom are certain their contribution WILL (like one's last testiment & will) WILL to make change, at the cost of living while dying.

"To live without speaking one's personal truth, is dying to 'the other' (proof), 'the me' in the mirror of old age &/or youth."

Until feb. 3rd we hope to continue the importance of our heartistic communication; community from the root of each our unique experience & understanding; an oral-living encyclopedia for the youth WiTHiN & without.

We see (c) that no (m) matter What = (is) E (Energy) spent for Life is worth living for to keep the other from dying, for something yet not the betterment of all earthlings. Thank you for taking the time to expound, to lighten your burden, as others pick up your passion & pursue anew. imaginnedia http://www.changemakers.com/en-us/node/68929 imagining global change makers.

Live Longer & Prosper Further,
a.

Hello,
The Flatirons Bank team is a great supporter of Circle of Care. We admire and adore Joan Raderman for her incredible vision and her constant attention to Circle of Care. I am a volunteer for CoC and have personally witnessed the amazing impact that CoC has on its members. The feeling of love, happiness and excitement can be seen on each and every face during a gathering. The concept of Circle of Care is brilliant. It unites the old and the young, the weak and strong to create a true circle of kindness and love. Winning this challange would certainly help sprend the love and eventually reach the entire country...what a beautiful concept! As a wise man once said, "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and LIFE to everything." Warm Hugs, Janet Kaitchuck
