Innovation

What makes your idea unique?

Few Techniques are making the Idea as Unique:
a) Building Awareness among the Adolescent Girls: If we want to reduce the maternal death and ensure a secure maternal life, firstly we have to ensure support for them those who are going to become a mother. But if we we want to protect the society from this curse of maternal health problem or vulnerability of life, then as a country like Bangladesh we have to building awareness among the adolescent girls or future mother about the risk of early marriage and maternity problem etc.

b)Sharing the Painful Maternal Experience of Young Mothers: This is really an innovative technique to mobilize the adolescent girls for understanding the practice of early marriage and their lives.

c) High School Level Adolescence Girls will be main Focused: This is another good and unique of innovation, since 75 people are living in the village and maximum girls are becoming the victims of early marriage from the village level high school this is why the BAPMA will play a vital role to aware the adolescent girls to gain a save maternal lives in the future (experience sharing meeting, counseling, IEC materials, video advocacy, seminar, etc)

Ms. Popy. Mother of 2 son. Got marriage in 11 with a van-puller of 30 years of old. Studding Class six. She became mother in 13 Years of old. She became mother again in 14.5. She looked very sweet in 11, now she looks like an old woman. She is becoming sick. This is case study of Chandradighalia of Gopalganj District in Bangladesh. This is very easily understandable of the impacts of early marriage, such as- a) the young mother could not study a lot b) she will not be able to teach her children and make their fruitful future c) she is becoming sick d) she is fully dependable to her husband and can not deny the request of her older husband e) may be she is becoming ready for next baby, since she is not concern about the maternal health and the problem of early marriage f) her above practice is influencing to others rather than creating awareness, because sometime she have had to show her good performances by overcoming all those problems to make her husband happiness and g)she started her conjugal life with false information (at least 18 years of old) to avoid the legal obligation rather than discouraging the registered authority to make the false birth date. So from the case study we could see how the early marriage impacting on maternal health.

How much say do these girls have in early marriage and childbearing? It sounds like the men and families in society hold most of the power. Beyond teaching the girls, how do you plan on reaching their family? This project sounds like it's trying to change the way things have been for a very long time and therefor will most likely meet resistance. What do you plan to do about this?

Hi Jake!

Nice to see your comments on BAPMA. In the village level about 80% parents are practicing for arranging the marriage for their adolescent girls. You are right, the grassroots level families are all most men dominated due to lack of awareness. But it would be very easy to reach them by building awareness among the adolescent girls by the young mother. Some time it seems very difficult to reach them but since we are not doing any business with the community thats they trust us and we have a very good access to reach them.

Hi Mahbub,
I think since you already plan to focus on school-based community systems, you should also consider opening counselling and awareness sessions for parents of these adolescent school going girls about early marriage, since parents will be the key decision makers at the end of the day. Parents also can be counselled on problems with adolescent pregnancy, since they serve as key advisors to their children.

Your idea is very pertinent. The problem that you want to resolve is a big one, is not just in India. So many girls around the world are forced to marry early, I have known some cases in Colombia, especially in rural areas. I think it`s a good beginning to concentrate efforts in order that the girls are aware of the implications of the marriage to early age, on their health and lives, because it could be "natural" for themselves, if they have not had another way to see their proyects lifes, they could be agree with it. The big hill is to do think people around the girls about them as human beings, who must make their own decisions and these must be repected.

You also mentioned family in your idea, but thinking about the future, this change of conscience must be also for culture, society and goverment. ¿How to do it? It's a big big big hill to go.

Hi Sonia,

Thank you very much for your kind information. Ya,, its really a challenging job that we have proposed but the learning of this challenge could be a sign of changes of society. we have a very good governmental law that girls are not allowed to get married before 18. So the idea of BAPMA will get official support from the government of Bangladesh.

Thanks once again

Hi M M Mahbub

Your idea is really interesting for me. I agree with you about the key role of awareness. But after reading your idea one of the developmental phenomena of adolescence is preoccupying me. This phenomenon is personal fable and is characterized by the thought, "That would never happen to me." So, how do you want to tackle this phenomenon?
