This is very interesting! We would like to learn more about what your makes your process so unique, besides using this particular plant. Also, what is the cost for a small producer to get started? What is their expected return and how will a market be secured? We also wanted to let you know that there are two other entries that are working on initiatives with moringa oleifera and thought you’d be interested in sharing ideas! The entry from Sudan is called “Moringa Oleifera for the rural areas of Sudan” and the other is “Nutrition on your door-step: Empowering local people to promote nutrition with moringa oleifera plant” from Nigeria. Thanks for a great entry!

Dear Naveen,
Thanks a lot for the comment and questions. Apart from the use of this plant, our process is unique in that we have tried as much as possible to incorporate the input of the community in the entire process.virtually all the raw materials we use are sourced from the community and small scale farmers, secondly the final product packaging are two.2kg package for the buyers in the higher income brackets in high end outlets and 250grams packed in cheaper packets and a little lower price for the majority of the millions who are malnourished in small retail outlets found in the villages in rural areas. This approach ensures that we reach our target populations down at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid.
It is relatively cheap for a small producer to get started. To start with 500 trees, one needs $125 to buy 500 trees,i.e $0.25 per seedling and 1 acre of land.land preparation costs will vary but averagely $50.it does not need fertilizers, fungicides or pesticides.
Harvesting starts after 4 months and 500 trees yields 200kg per harvest per month of dried leaf powder.1kg fetches $2.5.that earns a farmer $500 per month.
The market is already growing as we currently supply a total of 230 outlets,we only need to expand the network and serve the larger populations.
Finally im so glad that there are 2 fellow entrants working on the same idea.our approach may not be the same but it proves to the world that the concept of planting moringa trees to eliminate malnutrition is one that cannot be ignored by any party who is genuinely working to ultimately make malnutrition yesterday's problem.
i would very much welcome the 2 fellow entrants here andb exchange ideas.
