Dear Imani Zito,

Thank you for submitting your entry into the competition. I am going to forward your work to a friend of mine who is working to cultivate sustainability in New Hampshire through his program called GALA - Global Awareness, Local Action.

How do you aim to impact public policy? Thank you for your response.

Hi Dana - I would love to connect with your friend in NH - Dan Kittredge, the founder of The Real Food Campaign will be doing workshops all around New England and we are looking for others interested in the subject!

RE: Impacting Public Policy through The Real Food Campaign

The Real Food Campaign will shift public perception about what food is and the importance of providing food that is grown in healthy soil that is both nutritious and delicious. Access to real, nutrient dense foods will ultimatley impact and improve the overall health of a population suffering from obseity, diabetes, cancer and other modern maladies. In the long-term, food grown in ways that are not damaging to their earth with greater yields and less disease will ease the immense burden on the health care industry.

This is a really great idea! It’s great that you’re addressing food security concerns as well as educating the community through workshops, lectures, classes, films and more! We would really like to hear more about how you plan on competing in terms of price? How will you bring up the demand to compete in the market sustainably? Thanks for a great entry!

Thanks Naveen for your comments! Market Demand for High BRIX foods is already growing because produce grown in soil that is biologically active and highly functioning produces crops that taste better, are naturally pest resistant AND have a longer shelf life! We will see more stores seeking these products out but what we need to do is ensure that small, local farmers have access to the information on how to properly mineralize their soil to produce these crops (thus the reasoning behind our workshop series!)

So excited to report that we had 40 growers attend the first of our workshop series at our co-op space in Hartford TODAY! It was a full day providing a wealth of informtation and even more inspiration leaving us all feeling like we finally have some answers to the looming food security issues we feel faced with. Dan is teaching at 5 locations around New England - educating 200 or so growers to begin implimenting this techniques for growing nutrient dense & vitamin rich crops! I feel so blessed to be part of this grassroots effort and am excited to keep the momentum growing! If you are in New England and are interested in learning more about the hands-on applications, please contact me!
