Hello—the school garden, as you described, is a good way to teach children about a number of things at once, including about nutrition and proper farming methods. I’m interested to know if the children come from farming families already? Is the area in which you operate rural or urban? Would your project work in a different environment than the one it is now? (for example, if it is in an urban center would it funtion in the same way in a rural setting?) How do you include the parents and other adults in the children’s lives? Do you have a way to include them in the project? Are you teaching any skills to the children that would also benefit parents and families longer term? How is your program funded? Does it require any extra staff or is your project run entirely by the teachers in the school? Do the people running the project require any extra training? Are the children able to take the harvest home with them? Thanks for your time in answering these questions--I think it would strengthen your entry by providing the judges with more information.

School gardens are powerful tools in addressing children’s attitude towards healthy nutrition. Instilling the value associated with a nutritious and vitamin enriched diet at an early age is a key component to address malnutrition. This is a valuable idea and all children across India will benefit from your project. You mention financial constraints in scaling up your project to other districts in India. Building effective partnerships is a key component to the success of most projects. Has your organization approached any local/national businesses for donations in raising funds? Campaigns such as “Adopt a School Garden” have been successful in raising funds in many school garden settings. Citing such efforts you have made to partner with the businesses will by make your entry stronger. These relationships have a overall a positive impact a win-win situation for all, the businesses and the communities. These partnerships give a project like yours a step forward to scale up so all children across India can reap the benefit. I want to congratulate you on your work and wish you good luck.
