Kisan Raja is a revolutionary device(invented and manufactured by Vinfinet Technologies Pvt. Ltd.) that helps to bring the fruits of technology to rural India – particularly to farmers and unemployed youth. The solution allows farmers to remotely control the agricultural motor using their mobile or landline. An IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) in local language helps in making selections for switching the motor on or off. Farmers also receive voice alerts for faulty power supply, motor not starting, lack of water in the well/bore, and attempt of device/motor theft.
Kisan Raja is a vastly superior innovation in terms of functionality, safety and user-friendliness, when compared to low-end ‘auto-starters’ available in rural areas.

The agriculture sector in India uses 85% of the available fresh water. However, on-farm irrigation efficiency is only 20-50%. An estimated 213 billion cubic meters out of 690 billion cubic meters of surface water is wasted each month in India - about one half of the country’s total fresh water supply. This is mainly because of erratic power supply in rural India with the power being available mostly at nights. So, the motor pumps are left running for longer than what is necessary because of the effort involved in switching OFF the motor. Kisan Raja allows farmers to remotely control the operations of motor from their home itself thereby switching the motor On or OFF according to their irrigation requirements, thus saving water.

The Problem

Problems faced by farmers while operating irrigation pumps: 1. Physical effort and inconvenience: - Farmers have to travel to fields often at odd hours just to switch ON/OFF the motor due to erratic power supply. - They often face the risk of wild animals, snakes, hazardous terrain and electric shocks while traveling to the fields in the dark and on a rainy day - Existing aids like auto-starters are unreliable and incapable of communicating the operating state of the motor, to the farmer, especially when a farmer has more than one motor pump set; he has to run around to make sure that all the motor pumps are working when the power is available. 2. Frequent damage of irrigation equipment: - Motors and starters often get damaged due to voltage fluctuations, faults in three phase connectivity and running the motor in absence of water. - Farmers have to spend a lot of money, time and energy to get them repaired; at times such a delay has a severe impact on crop yield. 3. Theft of irrigation equipments: - Motors, starters and cables need to be deployed in open fields and hence are easy targets for thieves. 4. Wastage of water and electricity: - At times, motor pumps are left running for longer than what is necessary because of the effort involved in switching OFF the motor. This leads to wastage of both electricity and water.

Kisan Raja is a GSM based controller, which allows the farmer to control the agricultural motor using his mobile or landline from anywhere. Kisan Raja is an easy to use and economical communication device, which enables a farmer to operate his motor pump set from anywhere through his mobile or landline. What’s more – it can be fitted to all the existing motor starters and used with mobiles or landlines of any operator.
