I applaud you for being such a trailblazer in creating a tourist destination in an otherwise rarely visited place. I think it is important however for you to expand upon your relationship with the locals from a more cooperative standpoint, as the impact on locals is a major key to sustainable tourism. You mention that you have given many of them help in creating their own tourist destinations, despite the fact that this could be viewed as competition. I would change those sentences, because although I am sure it wasn't intended they seemed to create a big disconnect between you and the locals. I would highlight that your innovation has inspired many of the locals and helped spread themes of sustainability throughout the community. Just be careful that the locals do not seem like an unrelated piece to your lodge.
I agree 100% with your idea of sharing best-practices and lessons-learned. What are the best platforms, avenues, meetings and venues that best serve to help out those working in this sector?
BSI is one of my favorite places in the world and shown an outstanding commitment to sustainable practices in Ecuador, both leading the way and giving credit to others. All of my experiences working with Andy and Michelle have been positive and I look forward to seeing how their work progresses.
